Join in Employee Appreciation Ice Cream Socials next week

All employees are invited to Employee Appreciation Ice Cream Socials on Tuesday, June 11 and Thursday, June 13. This annual event is held to thank employees for their hard work and dedication. On June 11, from 1-2:30 p.m., UW‒Madison leaders will be handing out free Babcock ice cream on Bascom Hill (weather permitting) and as supplies last. Ice cream will be served in cups in two areas of Bascom Hill, including one area with flat or gentle surface slopes for greater accessibility. In case of rain or severe weather, the event will move to Birge Hall. On June 13, from 10 p.m. to midnight, there will be free Babcock ice cream in the Lake Mendota Room at Dejope Residence Hall for second- and third-shift employees. These events are open to all current UW‒Madison faculty, staff, and post-docs. Parking and transportation tips, along with other event details, can be found at go.wisc.edu/99c162.

How to check your tax withholding amounts

All UW–Madison employees are encouraged to do a “paycheck checkup” by reviewing their earnings statement. This can help prevent you from having too little or too much federal or state tax withheld from your paycheck. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) offers a Tax Withholding Estimator to help you determine the right amount of tax withholding for your situation at irs.gov/individuals/tax-withholding estimator. UW‒Madison cannot provide tax advice. Each employee must make withholding decisions on their own or with the assistance of their individual tax consultant. If you would like to make a change in how much tax you have withheld, go to MyUW > Payroll Information > Update W-4. A W-4 Quick Guide is also available online in English, Spanish, Hmong, Tibetan, Chinese and Nepali at go.wisc.edu/7tbgy4. This one-page guide provides instructions and tips on how to change the amount of income tax you have withheld from your paycheck.

Rec Well offers intramural sports for staff

Faculty and staff are invited to join a summer league sponsored by Rec Well and participate in sports such as basketball, kickball, trivia, and much more. UW‒Madison employees can purchase the $5 Summer Intramural Sports pass that will grant access to all intramural sport offerings; a Rec Well membership is not required except for the indoor sports of futsal and pickleball. Teams can be made up of any UW‒Madison staff, and staff members are welcome to invite others to join them on a team. Employees can also sign up as a free agent and be picked up by another team, or become a part of a Free Agent team if there is enough interest. Registration is now open, with activities beginning as soon as mid-June.
