Associate vice chancellor Martha Kerner retires; interim chosen

July 12, 2017

Associate Vice Chancellor for Business Services Martha Kerner has announced her retirement, effective the end of this month. Dan Langer, who has served as university Controller and Director of Accounting Services since 2012, will serve as interim Associate Vice Chancellor.

Kerner joined UW–Madison in 2012 after a distinguished career in Wisconsin state government. Kerner’s accomplishments at the university include overseeing the development of an internal controls framework, progress on a robust approach to e-commerce and strategic purchasing, and improved and streamlined customer service. She also served on the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration Engagement, Inclusion and Diversity Council and the selection committee for the campus Administrative Improvement Award.

“I want to thank Martha for her dedicated service to the University of Wisconsin–Madison,” Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration Laurent Heller said. “She has made many contributions, not only in the Division of Business Services but across the entire campus community. I wish her well in her retirement.”

In a message to her staff announcing her retirement, Kerner said “it has been both a privilege and a pleasure to have been able to work with you and be part of the Division of Business Services for the last five years.”

Langer will also continue as Controller during the interim period. Heller said Langer’s “background, experience and dedication will serve UW–Madison and the Division of Business Services well.”
