UW-Madison budget forum set for Sept. 14

The campus community is invited to be part of a discussion about the state budget and its impact on the University of Wisconsin–Madison in a forum on Wednesday, Sept. 14, from 3:30-5 p.m. at Gordon Dining & Event Center, 770 W. Dayton St.

The session will discuss the university’s budget landscape and how it has changed over time, the impact of budget cuts, the UW System 2017-19 budget request, along with how alumni and supporters are being engaged in budget discussions. There will also be ample time for question and answers and input from the campus community.

Participants will include UW–Madison Chancellor Rebecca Blank, Board of Regents President Regina Millner, Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration Laurent Heller, and Vice Chancellor for University Relations Charles Hoslet.

The UW System Board of Regents approved a budget request last month, including a request for an additional $42.5 million in new state funding over the next two years. In addition, Gov. Scott Walker has indicated that $50 million will be restored to UW System that was required to be lapsed back to the state in the current biennium.

Walker will present his budget plan in early winter next year, followed by deliberations by the legislature’s Joint Finance Committee. The state Senate and Assembly act on the budget bill following the Joint Finance Committee, and send it to the governor for final approval, usually around mid or late-June.

All UW–Madison employees may attend the forum in pay status, with supervisor permission, if the presentations fall during normal work hours.
