Deadline is Friday for excellence award nominations

As a reminder, the deadline for nominations for the UW-Madison Academic Staff Excellence Awards is Friday, Jan. 13. Nine winners in seven categories will be named in March and honored at an awards ceremony in April and at the Academic Staff Assembly meeting in May. Nomination materials for all awards should be submitted electronically here. If you have questions regarding the awards, please contact Jake Smith at 263-2985, or email pdrc@soas.wisc.edu.

Madison police captain leads UWPD as new chief

Kristen Roman, a Madison Police Department captain with extensive experience in community outreach, mental health issues and services to vulnerable populations, has been named UW-Madison chief of police. Roman began her duties on campus on Monday. Roman brings to the position a deep understanding of issues facing UW–Madison and the greater Madison community, and the need for strong police-community relations, Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration Laurent Heller said in announcing the appointment.  

MLK Day to be celebrated on campus

University of Wisconsin-Madison students, faculty and staff are invited to the 2017 UW-Madison MLK Day Celebration from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, at Union South. The event will recognize and celebrate the life of Martin Luther King Jr. as well as the many ways UW-Madison community members embody King’s spirit of service. The celebration will feature a free lunch, student speakers, conversation, an art project and a food drive. In addition, Monday is an official holiday; offices will be closed and no classes held.

Stop for some intercity buses moves to Langdon

Starting on Jan. 3, the boarding area for several intercity buses moved to Langdon Street. The following bus services now board on eastbound Langdon Street at the Lake Street intersection: Badger Bus, Coach USA, Greyhound, Jefferson Lines, Kobussen, Lamers, Megabus, Meister and Van Galder. Metro Transit bus stop locations on Langdon and Lake streets have also changed due to this new boarding area. See the map for new bus stop locations.
