| | April 19, 2017 | | | New UW VoIP phone system adding Unified CommunicationsUW-Madison is transitioning to a new telephone and voice platform. It will be using Cisco VoIP (Voice Over IP) technology with access to the telephone network for local and long-distance calling via AT&T. Being added to the rollout is Unified Communications, the ability to use instant messaging, presence (to monitor the real-time status of another user), and WebEX (online meetings with video conferencing and screen sharing). The DoIT Help Desk is the first of several early adopters to have successfully moved from the Centrex telephone system and Skype for Business to Cisco VoIP. The project team will continue migrating early adopter groups to Cisco VoIP until June 16, 2017. The team expects the campus conversion to take 12-18 months ( see timeline details). | | | | ETF discontinues walk-in appointmentsOn April 10, the Department of Employee Trust Funds (ETF) published changes aimed at improving customers’ experience. ETF has discontinued walk-in service appointments, which means members will need to schedule an appointment in order to meet with a Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) benefits specialist within ETF versus just dropping in. Employee Trust Funds administers retirement, insurance and other benefit programs for state and local government employees and retirees of the Wisconsin Retirement System. On Thursday, April 20, a mock tornado drill will be conducted. A mock tornado watch will be issued for all of Wisconsin beginning at 1 p.m., followed by a mock tornado warning at 1:45 p.m. A warning means a tornado has been sighted or indicated on weather radar, and you must move to safety. The drill ends at 2 p.m. At 6:45 p.m., the National Weather Service will issue a mock tornado warning for all of Wisconsin. | | | | Libraries to hold master plan town hallsUW-Madison Libraries are prepared to embark on the next phase of the campus libraries facilities master plan process. They’ll look to the campus community for input in shaping what the future of libraries on campus could look like. The Libraries will hold two town halls for the campus, at 5 p.m. April 25 at Memorial Library, room 126; and noon April 26 at Steenbock Library. They'll review draft scenarios for future campus library locations and seek input. | |
