Wellness Symposium Supports Well-Being

All UW-Madison employees and students are encouraged to attend the UW-Madison Wellness Symposium: A Day of Resilience and Well-Being, on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 8 a.m.–2:30 p.m. at Union South. The event will feature experiential breakout sessions, inspiration, and information about resources that support all aspects of well-being. Laura Putnam, author of “Workplace Wellness That Works” and noted well-being speaker and consultant, will deliver the keynote address. Attendees may come and go throughout the day. The registration fee is $35 for UW faculty and staff. Register by October 12 to secure your spot. For details, visit go.wisc.edu/x64bsw.

Event Celebrates Shared Governance

The UW-Madison Shared Governance Reception will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 3:30–5 p.m. in Varsity Hall at Union South. Refreshments will be served. All members of the UW-Madison community—including faculty, academic staff, university staff, and students—are welcome to attend. Representatives of shared governance will be on hand to answer questions about shared governance on the UW-Madison campus. Chancellor Rebecca Blank will make brief remarks at 4 p.m.

Professional Development Grants for Academic Staff

Applications are now being accepted for the Fall 2018 Academic Staff Professional Development Grant program. The program is offered to academic staff members who meet the eligibility requirements and hold at least a 50 percent appointment. Grants are for activities beginning between January 1, 2019, and June 30, 2019. Brown Bag sessions will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 25, noon–1 p.m. at Union South and Wednesday, Sept. 26, noon–1 p.m. at 1306 Health Sciences Learning Center (HSLC) for those who want to learn how to write a successful grant application. Applications are due to department chairs or unit leaders by October 26.

Mentors Sought for Academic Staff Program

The Academic Staff Mentoring Committee is in need of mentors to participate in the 2018–2019 Academic Staff Mentoring Program. The program provides for professional and personal development discussions among academic staff across campus. Recommendations for Academic Staff Mentors must have approximately five or more years of experience at UW–Madison, regardless of position. Those who are interested in registering as mentors should fill out the survey by Friday, Sept. 21. Mentor-mentee matches will be notified prior to the kickoff event on Thursday, Oct. 4, 10:30 a.m.–noon at Union South.
