Event Marks Opening of Relations with China

A commemoration of “The Week That Changed the World” will take place tomorrow, Thursday, Feb. 21, from 11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. in Varsity Hall, Union South. The event celebrates Chinese culture and heritage on the anniversary of the opening of relations between the United States and the People’s Republic of China by President Nixon in 1972. Participants will enjoy a cultural presentation, remarks by Dr. Joseph Dennis, and complimentary hot food and beverages. The event, which is sponsored by University Staff Shared Governance, is free and open to the public.

Employee Career Conference Deadline Approaching

“Construct Your Career at UW,” the UW–Madison Employee Career Conference, will take place on Thursday, March 7, 8:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. at Union South. The free conference is designed to help employees explore their career paths while continuing their employment at UW–Madison. The event offers workshops on career management topics, as well as a keynote presentation by Megan Watt, author of Discover. Act. Engage. Free 15-minute sessions with a career counselor and free professional portrait photos will both be available on a first come, first served basis (sign up at the conference). Attendees may come and go throughout the day. Register by Friday, Feb. 22 to secure your place at the conference and reserve a complimentary lunch.

Get Moving on #ActiveBadger Day

The Division of Recreational Sports (Rec Sports) is teaming up with a variety of partners to offer a full day of activities on campus on Friday, Feb. 28. Events begin at 7 a.m. and last into the evening. Activities include yoga, fitness classes, special meals, and a presentation on “Mind-Body Skills to Foster Optimal Health” at 8:30 a.m. at DeJope Residence Hall. A Workplace Workout, highlighting exercises that can be done at one's desk, is scheduled for noon at Grainger Hall, room 3190. Advance registration is requested for most events. Fair Highlights Education Research

The 2019 UW–Madison Education Research Poster Fair will take place on Friday, Feb. 22, 10 a.m.–1:30 p.m. at the Wisconsin Institutes of Discovery, 330 N. Orchard Street. Education-related research from departments and centers throughout UW will be featured. The keynote speaker will be Mariana Castro, language development researcher at WIDA and a faculty associate for the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. All faculty, staff, and students are welcome to attend. The event is hosted by the Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning and the Wisconsin Center for Education Research.
