• Administrative Quality Satisfaction Survey (AQSS) Open

  On April 9, the 2024 Administrative Quality Satisfaction Survey opened. All UW–Madison faculty, staff, postdoctoral and graduate assistant employees received a unique link to share their experience with administrative services at UW–Madison. Campus leaders are interested in learning about overall satisfaction with administrative services and through this survey will identify areas for improvement in crucial areas such as human resources, research administration, and communications. Employees can search for an April 9 email from Provost Charles Isbell and Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration Rob Cramer to find their link to the survey. UW–Madison has partnered with a third-party organization called HelioCampus to distribute the survey and keep survey responses confidential. The survey is open through April 30 and is available in six languages.

• Complete your 2024 Cybersecurity Awareness Training

  April 17, 2024

  The 2024 Cybersecurity Awareness Training is available in English (visual and text). Text versions in five additional languages will be available in the near future. This annual training is mandatory for all employees (including undergraduate and graduate student employees), as well as retirees and those in unpaid positions who access UW–Madison information technology resources per UWSA Policy 1032 (Source: wisconsin.edu). The training must be completed every 365 days (or earlier if required by your area). If you have already completed the 2024 training, the completion will be noted in your Employee Learning Transcript (Source: talent.wisc.edu).

  Learning how to be more cyber secure is an important part of keeping data, privacy, and IT systems protected and safe. The information and cybersecurity practices you will learn in this training will not only protect UW–Madison’s data and systems, but your personal data as well. • WRS Annual Statement of Benefits now available

  If you were covered by the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) in 2023, your WRS Annual Statement of Benefits is now available. The statement includes your 2023 earnings, retirement benefit projections, primary beneficiary designation(s) for your WRS account, and more. To view your statement, go to MyUW at my.wisc.edu and launch the Benefit Information module. Then click on the “WRS Statements of Benefits” tab to find the 2023 statement. Information on understanding your statement is available on the Universities of Wisconsin Statement of Benefits web page.

• Earth Fest to offer nearly 50 campus events

  The UW–Madison Office of Sustainability and the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies are launching UW–Madison Earth Fest, a new, campus-wide celebration of the environment and sustainability. The event will run from April 19–26 at locations across campus. Almost all events are free and open to the public.

• UW‒Madison presents paid parental leave policy to Board of Regents

  April 10, 2024

  UW–Madison will be implementing a new policy to provide eligible employees with up to six weeks (240 hours) of paid parental leave within a 12-month period for the birth or adoption of a child. The new policy will be effective July 1, 2024. Although it does not go into effect until July 1, 2024, UW–Madison’s policy is currently available on the Policy Library. Additional information, including FAQs, is available on the new Paid Parental Leave web page. Concurrently with the implementation of the new policy, UW–Madison will also make updates to the existing Postdoc Absence with Pay & Legal Holidays policy. More details, including a Parental Leave Request Form and language translations, will be added to the Paid Parental Leave web page before the policy effective date of July 1, 2024.

• Nominations open for 2024 IT Recognition Awards

  April 10, 2024

  Nominations are invited for UW–Madison’s annual IT Recognition Awards. The awards honor colleagues who excel at what they do and strengthen UW’s information technology (IT) community across seven categories: community engagement; diversity, equity and inclusion; lifetime achievement; rising star; team achievement; transformational achievement; and unsung hero. All academic staff and university staff working in the information and technology fields are eligible. The 2024 honorees will receive their awards at the IT Professionals Conference on May 30. Nominations are due by Sunday, May 5.

• Diversity Forum invites proposals for breakout sessions

  April 10, 2024

  The UW–Madison Division of Diversity, Equity & Educational Achievement is now accepting breakout session proposals for the annual Diversity Forum on November 13 and 14, 2024. The theme will be Threads of Belonging: Navigating Differences and Building Community. This theme underscores the importance of bringing our full selves to the collective while engaging with diversity and difference to gain new perspectives and facilitate growth. The deadline to submit a proposal is Monday, June 10.

• Webinar teaches mindfulness to enhance well-being

  LifeMatters and the Employee Assistance Office are offering a virtual webinar, Mind-Body Wellness, on Tuesday, April 23, noon‒1 p.m. Mind-Body Wellness can help participants develop the mindset to slow down, get centered, and get focused. Attendees will explore the difference between control and letting go and learn how to practice mindfulness, guided relaxation, conscious breathing, and gentle stretching. This year’s theme, “Shaping the Future,” highlights innovative teaching practices and technologies. The keynote speaker is Corbin M. Campbell, acting co-dean and professor at the American University School of Education and author of “Great College Teaching: Where It Happens and How to Foster It Everywhere.”

• Leadership in the Lab series supports emerging faculty leaders

  April 3, 2024

  Applications for the second cohort in the Leadership in the Lab series, which will begin in the fall of 2024, are now being accepted. Leadership in the Lab is a semester-long, cohort program designed specifically for early-career STEM faculty who are, or will be, leading a laboratory at UW–Madison. The series consists of one in-person introductory session, followed by virtual, 90-minute weekly sessions in which participants explore values and competencies. The series incorporates leadership essentials, tangible strategies, and peer networking. Seats are limited; interested faculty should apply as soon as possible, and no later than May 2. 2024.
