Next Gen Network

Join a Next Gen Network discovery session this month

Compared to modern networks, the current UW–‍Madison computer network has challenges:

  • It isn’t future-ready.
  • It has technological, process, and workload management issues.
  • It isn’t easily positioned to support emerging research, teaching and learning networking trends.
  • It isn’t capable, long-term, of efficiently managing the increased traffic from more devices and new device types.

The solution? The Next Generation Network Strategic Initiative (“Next Gen” for short). The first phase of the initiative is all about discovery. And that’s where we’re asking for your help.

The Next Gen Network project team is holding a campus-wide analysis exercise during January 2020 that will feed into our development of a modern business-relevant network strategy. We need input from faculty, staff, and students, as well as IT staff, about how you use the network now and how you plan to use it in the future.

Upon completion of this exercise, we will provide IT leadership with a summary of the key networking projects, teams and investments you shared that are needed to re-architect a future-proof, secure contemporary campus network for UW–‍Madison’s wired, wireless and cloud enterprise network.

We need your participation!

Help us to ensure that the Next Gen Network strategy effectively addresses campus needs.

  • We offer multiple sessions so you can attend one that’s convenient for you.
  • Snacks will be served!
  • Walk-ins are welcome.
