Bicycle events offered by resource center

UW Transportation Services provides the University Bicycle Resource Center for those interested in performing tune-ups to their own bicycles. It offers free use of tools, air pump and supplies, as well as maps and expertise. Several free classes are being offered this school year. All are at the resource center in the basement garage of Helen C. White Library, 600 N. Park St. No registration required but first come, first served. Topics are basic brakes, 6 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 12; introduction to wheel truing, 6 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 9; bike through winter, noon to 1 p.m. Dec. 7; bike traffic skills, noon to 1 p.m. Feb. 8; shifting and derailleurs, 6 to 7:30 p.m. March 8; annual maintenance and cleaning your chain, 6 to 7:30 p.m. April 5; and hub overhaul demo, 6 to 7:30 p.m. May 3.
