  • Professional development courses help employees manage change

    Learning and Talent Development at UW‒Madison offers courses and programs designed to help employees adapt to, manage, and initiate change. Understanding and Leading Change, part of the Fully Prepared to Lead program, provides the skills and tools leaders need to be effective change agents. The next online session is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 13, 9‒11:30 a.m., with additional sessions scheduled for Oct. 3 (in person) and Dec. 5 (online). Thriving in a Time of Change, part of the Thrive@UW program, invites participants to reflect on how change affects them and develop a personal action plan to navigate change. The course will be offered in person on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 9 a.m.‒noon and online on Nov. 2, 1‒4 p.m. Courses are free to all UW‒Madison faculty and staff.   • Parking permit and bus pass update from Transportation Services

    Employee bus passes and afternoon, night, moped, and motorcycle permits for the 2023‒24 year are now available to purchase through the Transportation Services eBusiness portal at transportation.wisc.edu/ebusiness or at a Transportation Services office. Round 2 offers for 2023‒24 annual permits (base lot, Flex, UW-Accessible and park and ride permits) must be claimed by August 15. Round 3 applications for annual permits are also due on August 15.   • Free webinar helps maintain positive mental health

    LifeMatters and the Employee Assistance Office are offering a virtual webinar, First Aid for the Mind, on Tuesday, August 22, noon‒1 p.m. Participants will learn about the warning signs of mental illness, common areas of emotional concern, and maintaining positive mental health. Information on how LifeMatters can help with also be provided. The webinar is offered at no cost to all UW‒Madison employees. Register online to receive the Zoom link.     Campus Supervisors Network (CSN) is a Community of Practice dedicated to promoting leadership and personnel management at UW–Madison by sharing ideas and best practices. A planning committee develops trainings and networking opportunities, and offers resources on its website as well as through a weekly newsletter. All UW supervisors are welcome to participate.

  • Career counseling available as an employee benefit

    UW‒Madison employees have access to free career counseling. The Employee Career Counseling Program gives employees the skills to manage, develop, and plan their careers at UW‒Madison. One-on-one, confidential counseling can help participants develop self-awareness, explore career choices, set goals, and develop an action plan. Employees who are ready for their next opportunity or who are experiencing career challenges of any kind can benefit from career counseling.   • Late-night Employee Ice Cream Social on August 16

    UW–Madison will hold an Employee Appreciation Ice Cream Social event for second- and third-shift employees on Wednesday, Aug. 16 from 10 p.m. to midnight at the Bakke Recreation and Wellbeing Center. This late-night event recognizes the hard work and contributions of UW–Madison’s second- and third-shift employees. Guests will be served Babcock ice cream; there will also be gluten-free, gelatin-free, dairy-free, and sugar-free options available. Employees may arrive at any time during the event. Employees can attend during work hours without loss of pay. Employees who plan to attend should tell their supervisor.   • Upcoming sessions for prospective volunteer tutors

    The Volunteer Tutoring Program at UW‒Madison matches employees with tutors who provide one-on-one instruction in conversation practice, basic English skills for reading and writing, or learning about the U.S. culture. Tutors receive training and may choose to earn an online Tutor Training Certificate. Informational sessions about becoming a tutor will be held online via Zoom on August 22, August 31, and September 6. Advance registration is not required, and there is no obligation to volunteer after attending. UW‒Madison employees, students, and community members are all welcome to volunteer.

  • Next Workday Walkthrough features banking and settlement

    When Workday goes live at every UW System institution in July 2024, banking and settlement will be centralized in Workday. The virtual Workday Walkthrough on Thursday, August 10, 3‒4 p.m., will provide an overview and demonstration of this functionality. Workday Walkthroughs are an introduction to Workday; they are not training. Training will begin in 2024.   • Parking permit updates from Transportation Services

    The deadline to accept Round One parking permit offers is August 1. Applications for Round Two are also due August 1. Round Two offers will be emailed August 2‒3. Bus passes, Lot 76 Quick Passes, and afternoon, night, motorcycle, and moped permits will be available to purchase online starting August 1. For details, visit transportation.wisc.edu.

  • Title Library features employee and manager resources

    As of July 2023, the Title and Standard Job Description Library — which has titles for all jobs at UW‒Madison — has been updated. The refreshed site works faster, has a new search function, and features resources for employees and managers. A benefits tool helps employees estimate the dollar value of their benefits elections.
