Upcoming Project to Close Part of N. Mills Street
N. Mills Street between University Avenue and W. Johnson Street will soon close to two-way through traffic as part of the Chemistry Building expansion project. Vehicle access will only be available to Conklin Place from University Avenue. The road closure should start within the next week and will last approximately three weeks. Vehicle traffic, including Metro Bus routes, will detour via nearby parallel streets such as N. Orchard Street or N. Park Street. Updates on construction detours can be found on the Transportation Services website at transportation.wisc.edu.

Last Day to Register for Leadership Conference
Registration closes today, October 31, for the 20th Annual Leadership and Management Development Conference, scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 7, 8 a.m.–4 p.m. at Union South. Attendees can choose from workshop topics that will help them develop leadership and management skills, whether they are in formal positions of leadership or not. The conference is open to faculty, staff, and members of the community. The conference fee is $125, including lunch. To secure your place, register at hr.wisc.edu/lmd.

The Discussion Project Invites Applications
The Discussion Project, developed by the School of Education, is a professional development program specifically devoted to improving classroom discussion and promoting classroom environments that are welcoming to all students. UW–Madison faculty and teaching staff who are assigned to teach at least one course in Spring 2019 are eligible to apply. Participants learn strategies for creating inclusive classroom climates, facilitating discussions for both large and small groups, assessing effectiveness, and more. Participants receive $500 in flex funding for completing all program requirements. Applications to join the Spring 2019 cohort are due November 16. Overcoming Distractions for Managers
Campus Supervisors Network will be hosting a session on “Overcoming Distractions” on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2–3:30 p.m. in the Memorial Union (see Today in the Union for room). Jenny Faust, director of the Office of Strategic Consulting, will review neuroscientific research on the challenges to sustained focus. Participants will discuss strategies for dealing with distractions in this interactive, activity-based session. All supervisors and managers at UW–Madison are welcome to participate. Enroll in Annual Benefits by October 26 Deadline
The Annual Benefits Enrollment period ends this Friday, Oct. 26 at 4:30 p.m. This is the only time you can make changes to certain benefits without having an eligible life event or qualifying employment change during the year. In addition, certain benefits you may be enrolled in require action each year. Employees should choose their 2019 benefits via Self Service in MyUW. To get started, visit benefits.wisc.edu/2019.

Learn About TSA Supplemental Retirement Savings
The UW Tax-Sheltered Annuity (TSA) 403(b) Program is a supplemental retirement savings plan that can help UW–Madison employees prepare for retirement. Attend a free workshop to learn about the TSA 403(b) program and the importance of saving for retirement. Workshops are scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 6 and Monday, Dec. 10, 10–11 a.m., 21 North Park Street, room 1106. Visit go.wisc.edu/9w4a0h to register. You can also set up a free, one-on-one counseling session on campus with a representative from Fidelity or TIAA. Individual counseling sessions with T. Rowe Price are available by phone.

Panel Discussion Looks at Compliance Processes
As part of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, the Office of Cybersecurity will present a panel discussion of interest to faculty and staff who manage federally protected data. Compliance issues can impact academic researchers, IT staff professionals, cybersecurity professionals, and financial or human resources staff. An expert panel will discuss the strategies and methods used at UW–Madison in the appropriate handling of protected data. The free panel discussion will be held Wednesday, Oct. 24, noon–1:30 p.m. in Union South (check Today in the Union, or TITU, for room). Advance registration is not required.

Meditation Classes on Campus
Meditation increases concentration, enhances mental clarity, and helps induce positive states of relaxation and well-being. Meditation classes open to all are held noon–12:45 p.m. on Tuesdays at 21 N. Park Street, room 7045 and noon–12:45 p.m. on Wednesdays at Union South (check Today in the Union, or TITU, for room). These classes introduce the general principles and benefits of meditation. Students will practice different types of meditation. All classes are free and open to students, faculty, and staff. No registration is required.

NetID Login Process Changing
The NetID login process at UW–Madison is adding a second step, called multi-factor authentication. The first steps for logging in will remain the same: You will enter your NetID and password. The additional step uses a smartphone or token (also called a fob) to verify your identity. The new verification process will be rolled out to all UW–Madison faculty and staff by school, college and division, with completion estimated in March, 2019. The Office of Cybersecurity will host a free panel discussion on multi-factor authentication on Thursday, Oct. 18, noon–1:30 p.m. in the Computer Sciences Building, Room 3139 ABC. All interested employees are welcome to attend.

Supplemental Vision Coverage Changes for 2019
The Annual Benefits Enrollment period is currently underway and will end on October 26, 2018. Any employee currently enrolled in supplemental vision coverage through EPIC Benefits+ should review the 2019 VSP vision option and take action to enroll if you want supplemental vision insurance for 2019. EPIC Benefits+ vision coverage will end December 31, 2018.
