  • New deadlines for renovation project requests

    FP&M Physical Plant-Campus Renovation Services has instituted new deadlines for the submission of renovation project requests. Requests for Summer 2017 renovation projects must be submitted by Jan. 1, 2017. This is the first in a series of process improvements to how Campus Renovation Services schedules and delivers renovation projects during periods of peak construction.

  • Proposals sought for Baldwin grant awards

    The Office of the Provost is soliciting proposals from faculty, staff, and students for the 2017 Ira and Ineva Reilly Baldwin Wisconsin Idea Endowment competition. Proposals are encouraged for new outreach and public engagement activities that partner with community and off-campus organizations to extend and apply our research, education and clinical knowledge to help solve problems or take advantage of opportunities. Projects may begin on or after July 1, 2017, and last up to three years. This year, awards totaling approximately $700,000 are expected to be granted.

  • Employees to use eBenefits during enrollment

    During this year’s benefits enrollment period, UW-Madison employees will use eBenefits, a self-service electronic benefits submission process to record employee benefit elections/choices. The Annual Benefits Enrollment period for 2017 will be from Monday, Oct. 17 to Friday, Nov. 11. Open labs will be held to assist employees with eBenefits entry and to answer benefits questions; divisions/departments will hold labs as well. OHR Open eBenefits Labs will be at 21 N. Park St., Suite 5041, from 8 to 11 a.m. Oct. 17; 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 25; 1 to 4 p.m. Nov. 2; and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 10.  You can also visit the Annual Benefits Enrollment website for information on 2017 benefits.   • Canvas use jumps in fall semester

    More than 660 fall credit-based courses and 19,000 students are now using the Canvas learning management system at UW-Madison. The transition to Canvas is going faster than expected because many have a desire to make the switch. For those making the switch, new demonstrations, webinars and training sessions are available through December. Sandbox courses are also available.

  • UHS names Yan to lead budget team

    Holly Yan joined University Health Services as budget and finance manager in July after 15 years as the housing accounting manager with UW Housing. A 1997 graduate of UW-Madison, Yan emigrated to the U.S. from China during her sophomore year of high school. Yan came to campus in 1993. She paid her own room and board at Chadbourne Hall and worked towards dual degrees while juggling two jobs. Shortly afterwards, Yan obtained a degree in accounting.

  • Bicycle events offered by resource center

    UW Transportation Services provides the University Bicycle Resource Center for those interested in performing tune-ups to their own bicycles. It offers free use of tools, air pump and supplies, as well as maps and expertise. Several free classes are being offered this school year. All are at the resource center in the basement garage of Helen C. White Library, 600 N. Park St. No registration required but first come, first served. Topics are basic brakes, 6 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 12; introduction to wheel truing, 6 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 9; bike through winter, noon to 1 p.m. Dec. 7; bike traffic skills, noon to 1 p.m. Feb. 8; shifting and derailleurs, 6 to 7:30 p.m. March 8; annual maintenance and cleaning your chain, 6 to 7:30 p.m. April 5; and hub overhaul demo, 6 to 7:30 p.m. May 3.

  • Headshots to be taken by Curb Magazine

    Curb Magazine’s photographers will be taking professional headshots next week as a fundraiser. Funds go to the annual nonprofit, award-winning publication produced by students in UW-Madison’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication. They’ll take the photos from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5 and Thursday, Oct. 6, on Bascom Hill, near the statue of Abe Lincoln. Rain location is Bascom Hall lobby. Cost: $10 for three headshot photographs, sent to you via Google Drive within five days. Can be used in LinkedIn profile, portfolio, profile photo or elsewhere.

    Looking for a lot of UW-Madison information, all in one place? The Wisconsin app is a popular destination for Badgers on the go, who need information when they want it. Built in 2014 and now at version 2.1.1, the app features integration of MyUW, Learn@UW, news, the campus map, real-time bus route tracking, and more. The top three features ranked according to use are: bus, MyUW and campus map, followed closely by Learn@UW.

  • Employee benefits and resource fair is Oct. 4

    The UW-Madison Employee Benefits & Resource Fair will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 4. The event time has been expanded to allow better employee access.   • Dean of Students Office has new look

    The Division of Student Life is excited to announce a restructuring to better serve students and the campus community. The Dean of Students Office has split into two separate departments: the Dean of Students Office and the Office of Student Conduct & Community Standards.

    The Dean of Students Office (DOSO) will remain focused on student assistance and advocacy, as well as faculty/staff consultation. The Office of Student Conduct & Community Standards will address nonacademic and academic misconduct.

    DOSO exists to support the academic mission of the university and to assist and support students in finding their own unique path to success. DOSO works with students individually on a wide range of student life issues, including academic concerns, interpersonal stresses, mental health issues and crisis situations.
