  • Next Workday Walkthrough on May 11

    When Workday goes live at every UW System institution in 2024, University Staff and Academic Staff will request absences and report time in Workday. The virtual Workday Walkthrough on Thursday, May 11, 3‒4 p.m., will provide an overview and demonstration of this functionality. Workday Walkthroughs are an introduction to Workday; they are not training. Training will begin in 2024.   • Ideas sought for 175th anniversary website

    University Marketing is building a website to celebrate the University of Wisconsin–Madison’s 175th anniversary. All members of the UW community are invited to submit ideas for UW‒Madison events, discoveries, or milestones that have made a lasting impact beyond campus. Predictions for future UW‒Madison discoveries and achievements are also welcome, and should be submitted using this form. Select ideas will be featured on the 175th anniversary website. Submissions are due by Friday, May 5.

  • Nominations Open for Outstanding Achievement on Behalf of LGBTQ+ People

    UW–Madison is seeking nominations for faculty, staff, students, or community members for the 2023 UW System Dr. P.B. Poorman Award for Outstanding Achievement on Behalf of LGBTQ+ People. The award recognizes LGBTQ+ people or their allies who have contributed in the following ways: their advocacy, activism, or scholarship has fostered social justice and organizational change; they have created positive transformation within their institutions and/or the community to achieve the goals of diversity, equity, and inclusion; and /or their efforts are improving the climate for, or status and visibility of, LGBTQ+ people. To submit a nomination, please send a single nomination letter of no more than three pages to Lindsey Stoddard Cameron at lindsey.stoddardcameron@wisc.edu by Friday, May 5th.

  • Reminder of deadlines to use personal holiday and vacation carryover

    UW–Madison employees are reminded to make plans to use personal holiday hours or vacation carryover by the upcoming deadlines. Faculty, Academic Staff, and Limited Appointees with 12-month (annual basis) appointments must use all carried-over vacation and personal holiday hours by June 30, 2023, the end of the fiscal year. Floating holidays earned on Dec. 24, 2022, and Dec. 31, 2022, must also be used by June 30. For University Staff, all carried-over vacation and all personal holiday hours must be used by December 31, the end of the calendar year. Employees who are eligible to bank leave may do so. Any vacation carryover or personal holiday hours remaining after these respective deadlines will be lost. Leave balances can be found under “Time and Absence” in MyUW. Employees who wish to verify their leave balances and the corresponding deadlines should contact the human resources department in their school, college, or division.

  • Observatory Drive closures near Bascom Hall begin April 24

    Beginning April 24, the eastbound lane of Observatory Drive will close between Charter Street and Bascom Hall to accommodate utility work. The westbound lane will remain open until May 4, when a one-day closure is planned for both lanes. The area is expected to fully reopen May 5. Detour information can be found at transportation.wisc.edu.

  • WRS Annual Statement of Benefits Now Available

    If you were covered by the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) in 2022, your WRS Annual Statement of Benefits is now available. The statement includes your 2022 earnings, retirement benefit projections, primary beneficiary designation(s) for your WRS account, and more. To view your statement, go to MyUW at my.wisc.edu and launch the Benefit Information module. Then click on the “WRS Statements of Benefits” tab to find the 2022 statement. Information on understanding your statement is available online. If you have questions, please contact your human resources office.

  • Register Now for Research Professionals Conference

    The Research Professionals Conference is scheduled for Tuesday, June 13, at the Health Sciences Learning Center (HSLC) from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This conference is intended for all research staff, including project managers, postdocs, laboratory technicians, and laboratory managers. Breakout sessions will address a range of topics designed to enhance skills and promote professional growth. The keynote speaker, Director of Mental Health Services at UW‒Madison Dr. Sarah Nolan, will present on Collective Care: The Future of Well-Being.   • Free Webinar Helps Employees Build Time Management Skills

    LifeMatters and the Employee Assistance Office are offering a virtual webinar on Conquering Time on Thursday, April 27, 11 a.m.–noon via Zoom. Attendees will learn how to identify time management mistakes they may be making and determine how they can improve. Topics will include assessing one’s personal energy cycle, prioritizing to-do lists, managing common time wasters, and creating new habits.   • Bakke Recreation & Wellbeing Center to open April 24

    The Bakke Recreation & Wellbeing Center will open on April 24 on the site of the old Natatorium. It features spaces dedicated to wellbeing, a teaching kitchen, strength and cardio equipment, an ice rink, sports simulators, a rooftop fitness area, and more.
