  • Nominations open for 2024 Regents Diversity Awards

    UW–Madison is seeking nominations for the 2024 Regents Diversity Awards. These awards recognize people, units and initiatives whose work has fostered greater access and success for students who are members of historically underrepresented populations (including African American, Native American, Hispanic/Latino, Asian American, and Southeast Asian), first-generation and/or economically disadvantaged. Nominations are due by Sept. 28.

  • Next Workday Walkthrough scheduled for September 14

    When Workday goes live at every UW System institution in July 2024, costing allocation assignments will be made in Workday. Costing allocations in Workday specify how an employee’s position will be funded and for how long. The virtual Workday Walkthrough on Thursday, September 14, 3‒4 p.m., How to Fund Positions in Workday, will provide an overview and demonstration of this functionality and will be of particular interest to anyone who enters funding in the Human Resources System (HRS). Workday Walkthroughs are an introduction to Workday; they are not training. Training will begin in 2024.   • Lifesaving naloxone available in more campus locations

    UW‒Madison has installed 13 new naloxone boxes, totaling 25 boxes throughout campus. These boxes provide free access to NARCAN®, a brand of naloxone nasal spray and a safe, lifesaving medication that can rapidly reverse an opioid overdose. The boxes are located near an AED in each building and contain NARCAN® nasal spray, a breathing barrier, instructions on how to administer NARCAN® nasal spray, and recovery-based resources.   • UWPD launches BadgerSAFE safety app

    The UW‒Madison Police Department (UWPD) has officially launched BadgerSAFE, a safety app that aims to keep the campus community informed and provide quick access to safety-related resources. The Friend Walk feature allows you to send your location in real time to a friend or family member, so they can track you as you walk to your destination. The “I’m OK” feature sends your location and a message to a recipient of your choice letting them know that you’re OK. The app also offers off-campus emergency alerts and the ability to call or text a UWPD Dispatcher in a non-emergency situation.   • Well Wisconsin offers incentive to meet health and well-being goals

    The Well Wisconsin program supports participants in meeting their health and well-being goals. Those who complete the program steps by the October 13, 2023, deadline will earn a $150 incentive. UW employees, retirees, and their spouses who are currently enrolled in the Wisconsin State Group Health Insurance plan are eligible to participate. Participants must complete a health assessment, health check, and one well-being activity. There is also a simplified process for people who do not have computer access, need language support, or find the online steps challenging to complete.   • Flu shot clinic for second and third shift employees

    A flu shot clinic for second and third shift UW‒Madison employees will be held on Thursday, Sept. 7, 11 p.m. to 1 a.m., at the Health Sciences Learning Center (HSLC), Room 1222. Free parking will be available in lots 74, 82, 60 and 64. Appointments are not required. Employees should bring their Wiscard and their insurance card. Employees without proof of insurance will still receive a flu shot at no cost. Employees who plan to attend should notify their supervisor. Flu shot clinics on multiple dates and times, and at various campus locations, will be announced soon for employees who work during regular business hours.

  • Check your route: more Metro Transit route adjustments

    Madison Metro has adjusted its redesigned system of bus schedules based on passenger feedback. The new system may be easier and more accessible than before for some UW community members. Employees who use Madison Metro buses should check their routes for any changes. Find details at transportation.wisc.edu.

  • UW–Madison monitoring extreme heat in Wisconsin

    The National Weather Service has forecast extreme heat for Wisconsin this week, including an Excessive Heat Watch from Wednesday morning through Thursday evening. The university remains open for normal business and is taking certain precautions. Should employees feel that they cannot safely work or travel to campus, they can contact their supervisors to make alternate arrangements or take leave, according to the Inclement Weather Policy.   • Housing move-in and construction projects to affect campus travel

    Some campus roads will be one-way only and restricted to residence hall move-in traffic August 27, 30, 31, and September 1. Ongoing construction projects will also affect travel for pedestrians, bikes, buses, and motorists as the fall semester begins. Commuters are advised to expect delays and plan ahead.   • New professional development offerings for fall 2023

    The Office of Strategic Consulting has released the fall 2023 lineup for its Ignite: Fueling Organizational Excellence and In Scope: Managing Projects at UW‒Madison professional development series. The Ignite series is intended for employees who work to create positive change at UW. This fall’s series will center on process improvement methodologies and tactics. Some sessions will be in person and others will be online, with the first session scheduled for September 12. The In Scope series is designed for managers of small- to medium-sized projects at UW and will provide foundational skills to navigate projects more efficiently and effectively. The series begins October 5, and all sessions will be online. There are no fees to participate in either series; registration is required.
