Registration open for Student Employment Summer Summit
The 4th annual Student Employment Summer Summit will take place on Wednesday, July 12, 12:30‒4:30 p.m., at Gordon Dining and Event Center. This in-person event brings together supervisors, hiring managers, and others who support student employment at UW‒Madison and beyond. The event is hosted by the Student Employment team in the Office of Student Financial Aid and is offered at no cost.

Learn assertive communication skills
Life Matters and the Employee Assistance Office will present a free session for UW‒Madison employees on Assertive Communication. Participants will learn how to boost self-esteem, address conflict, set boundaries, and more. Both virtual and in-person options will be offered. The virtual session will take place Monday, June 26, 11 a.m.‒noon with registration at go.wisc.edu/14877g. The in-person session is scheduled for Thursday, June 29, 10:30‒11:30 a.m. at 21 North Park Street, rooms 1106/1108, with registration at go.wisc.edu/7dsmfi.

West Campus District Plan Open Houses in June
The West Campus District planning team will hold two open house events in June to view the new concept designs and collect feedback. This is the first time the public will see these updated designs. Events will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 11 a.m.‒1:30 p.m. in the Health Sciences Learning Center Atrium, and on Wednesday, June 21, 4‒6:30 p.m. at the Bakke Recreation & Wellbeing Center. The project team will also be sharing additional information on the project timeline, next steps, and designs for the future of the Biotron site. Metro Transit bus service changing June 11
City bus routes and stop locations will be completely different in the new bus system starting Sunday, June 11. Employees are encouraged to check their bus routes before June 11 with Metro’s service maps, timetables, and trip planning resources. Learn more about the new bus system at transportation.wisc.edu.

Coaching circles provide campus connections and support
Learning and Talent Development is inviting interested UW‒Madison employees to attend an introductory session on coaching circles. Coaching circles bring together 5‒6 people from different areas across campus to meet virtually once a month and share current challenges. Coaching circles are intended to provide connection and support, not advice. In the introductory session, participants will learn about the logistics, roles, and steps involved in participating in a coaching circle. An opportunity to experience a coaching circle will be provided. No coaching experience or special knowledge is required. Several introductory sessions are scheduled for summer and fall.

Community and campus events for Bike Week
Madison Bike Week is June 3‒10, and local bike advocacy organizations Madison Bikes and Wisconsin Bike Fed have published calendars of this year’s community events. The University Bicycle Resource Center (UBRC), located on the UW‒Madison campus, is offering a free class on How to Plan a Bicycle Route on Thursday, June 8, noon‒1 p.m. Registration is not required. Open to the campus community and visitors, the UBRC provides a do-it-yourself space for bike tune-ups and bike classes. The University Bicycle Resource Center is located in the Helen C. White Garage (Lot 6), in the northeast corner of the ground level of the parking garage. Eleven air and repair stations, which are free for anyone to use, are located across campus. First round of parking applications closes June 2
Transportation Services is accepting parking permit applications for the upcoming parking year (Sept. 1, 2023–Aug. 31, 2024). Apply by June 2 for first-round consideration for base lot (including reduced cost), Flex, UW Accessible, park and ride, and business alternate permits. First-round offers will be sent the week of July 10. Additional application rounds for these permit types are planned in late July and early August. Bus passes and other parking options will be available for purchase Aug. 1. Find details at transportation.wisc.edu.

Workday Workthrough to focus on learning management
When Workday goes live at every UW System institution in 2024, UW‒Madison employees will manage their professional growth in the new Workday learning management system. The virtual Workday Walkthrough on Thursday, June 8, 3‒4 p.m., will provide an overview and demonstration of this functionality. Workday Walkthroughs are an introduction to Workday; they are not training. Training will begin in 2024. Rec Well offers free intramural sports for staff
Faculty and staff are invited to join a summer league sponsored by Rec Well. UW‒Madison employees can play in sports such as basketball, kickball, trivia, and volleyball. Activities will begin as soon as mid-June. These leagues are open to all; a Rec Well membership is not required.

Help students flourish at summer teaching workshop
UW–Madison co-developed the Art and Science of Human Flourishing, an innovative undergraduate course to support students with self-awareness, focus, social connectivity, and purpose in life. A workshop will be offered the week of June 19 for faculty, graduate students, and staff who have interest in co-teaching the course, integrating elements of it into existing courses, or bringing concepts of flourishing into their work with students outside the classroom. Registration closes June 8. Some scholarship funds are available.
