Lunchtime Yoga for Employees via Zoom
A free, virtual lunchtime yoga session will be offered by University Recreation & Wellbeing (RecWell) on Thursday, Sept. 22 from noon‒12:45 p.m. This activity can count as an employee’s Well Wisconsin well-being activity — one of three steps that must be completed by Oct. 14, 2022, to earn the Well Wisconsin $150 incentive. All participants must sign an assumption of risk form prior to participating in the yoga session. Please go to Welcome to Connect2 to complete the form. The event is co-hosted by the CALS Wellness Committee and the Office of Equity, Inclusion and Employee Well-Being.

COVID-19 and Staying Healthy This Fall
The university is providing support to enhance campus public health while maintaining instruction, programs, and services this fall. This includes offering — at no cost — COVID-19 vaccines, high-efficiency masks, and COVID-19 testing. UHS will soon begin offering updated booster shots that protect against both the original strain of virus and newer Omicron variants. Check MyUHS at myuhs.uhs.wisc.edu for appointments. Academic Staff Professional Development Grants Offered
Applications are now being accepted for the Fall 2022 Academic Staff Professional Development Grant program. The program is offered to academic staff members who meet the eligibility requirements and hold at least a 50 percent appointment. Grants are for activities beginning between January 1, 2023, and June 30, 2023. There will be informational sessions offered virtually on Tuesday, Sept. 20 and Wednesday, Sept. 21 from noon to 1 p.m. The deadline to submit completed applications to one’s department chair or unit head is Monday, Oct. 24, 2022.

Student Employment Supervisor Series Begins
The Student Employment Supervisor Series: Lead, Develop, Grow will begin on September 20, 2022, and will meet on the third Tuesday of every month at 1 p.m. via Zoom. This virtual professional development series engages student employment supervisors across campus to discuss various topics that impact UW‒Madison students and the student employment experience. The series will focus on timely topics that ensure best practices and enhance student employment at UW‒Madison.

Retreat Looks at Reducing Linguistic Bias in Education
The Teaching Academy will host a hybrid Fall Retreat, with in-person sessions held at Gordon Commons and virtual sessions held via Zoom, on Friday, Sept. 30, 9‒11 a.m. This year’s theme is “Addressing Linguistic Bias to Support All Learners.” The retreat will explore and address linguistic bias to better support learners for whom a language other than English is their first language, as well as learners for whom academic standard varieties of English are not their dominant language. Doors and Zoom open at 8:30 a.m. Breakfast and light refreshments will be served at Gordon Commons. Register in advance.

Flu Shots Available on Campus This Fall
University Health Services flu shot clinics will open on September 13. Everyone should be vaccinated annually. Getting vaccinated helps protect each of us in addition to limiting the spread of influenza. Flu shots are available at no cost through December 8 at multiple campus locations and various times of day. Appointments are encouraged but not required. Employees should bring their insurance card to the clinic for drop-in appointments. Employees without proof of insurance will still receive a flu shot at no cost. University Roundtable Offers Lunchtime Learning
The University Roundtable will be hosting monthly luncheons featuring speakers from the UW‒Madison community. All programs will be held in Varsity Hall at Union South from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fall sessions are scheduled for October 26, November 16, and December 14. Advance registration for each event is required. The sessions are open to all members of the university community and their guests.

Info Sessions on West Campus District Plan
UW‒Madison has partnered with University Research Park (URP) and international design firm Perkins & Will to develop a district plan for the west side of campus. This effort is part of the University’s larger revenue innovations initiative that seeks to identify compelling revenue opportunities that fund the core academic, research, and outreach mission. The design team will host two informational sessions on the project next week: Wednesday, Sept. 14, 7 ‒ 8 p.m. at the Health Sciences Learning Center (HSLC) room 1345, and Thursday, Sept. 15, 3:30 ‒ 4:40 p.m. at HSLC room 1325. The Sept. 14 session is for the wider community and the Sept. 15 session is for campus, but members of the campus community are encouraged to attend whichever session best fits their schedule.

Special Note on First 2022‒23 Academic Year Paycheck for Nine-Month Appointments
Employees who are currently paid over nine months (also known as “C-basis” employees) will receive a partial biweekly paycheck on Sept. 8, 2022, that will include pay for the period of August 22‒August 27. The number of paychecks received in a year and the pay periods represented are based on an employee’s contract dates; 2022‒23 academic contracts for nine-month appointees began on August 22. A detailed biweekly pay schedule that includes benefits deductions is available online.

UWPD Equity Dashboard Tracks Success Measures for Campus Policing
The UW–Madison Police Department (UWPD) has recently updated its Equity Dashboard to add data on service calls for the second quarter of 2022. The Equity Dashboard promotes transparency and provides a set of success measures that speak directly to the UWPD’s commitment to equity in policing. Users can view UWPD calls for service, arrests, citations, use of force, complaint data, and more. Information can be downloaded by the user for any quarter in which data is available. The dashboard also provides general information about programs and services offered by the UWPD. The Equity Dashboard can be found at go.wisc.edu/uwpddashboard.
