  • Regular Hours to Resume at University Dining Markets

    Regular hours will resume at the University Dining Markets on Thursday, Sept. 5. All markets will return to regular service, in which diners choose individual food items and pay for what they take, with one exception. At Rheta’s Market only, diners will pay a fixed price for their meal when they enter and take all they care to eat, buffet style. Rheta’s Market is located in Chadbourne Residence Hall at the intersection of Park Street and University Avenue.   • Check Your Federal Withholding Amount

    All UW–Madison employees are encouraged to do a “paycheck checkup.” This can help prevent you from having too little or too much federal tax withheld from your paycheck. The IRS offers a Tax Withholding Estimator to help you determine the right amount of tax withholding for your situation at irs.gov/individuals/tax-withholding estimator. If you would like to make a change in how much tax you have withheld, please submit a new W-4 form as soon as possible or see your local payroll contact for assistance.

  • New Website Focuses on Professional Development for Employees

    UW–Madison employees have access to thousands of courses, seminars, conferences, and other professional development events every year. Employees can learn about these opportunities by reviewing the new Professional Development website for UW–Madison. The new site enables employees to search for courses and other learning opportunities, view their official course history, and learn how to develop their career. The site also offers information about campus communities of practice. All employees are encouraged to engage in professional development as a way to learn new skills, build relationships with colleagues, and achieve career goals.   • Faculty and Staff Meal Plan Offers Savings

    UW–Madison faculty and staff can save money at any of the six University Housing dining locations by joining a meal plan offered by University Housing. For a $29.99 annual fee, members receive a 20 percent discount on most food items during the academic year (Sept. 4, 2019–May 8, 2020). Program members must use their Wiscard for purchases to receive the discount. Deposits can be made to a Wiscard account online, in person, or by mail. To sign up for the meal plan, visit the Housing Dining Office in the lower level of Gordon Dining & Event Center, 770 West Dayton Street.

  • Child Care Grants for University Staff

    The University Staff Child Care Grant program helps University Staff at UW–Madison pay for the cost of quality child care for their children. Eligible employees include permanent University Staff who demonstrate a high need for additional financial support to pay for regulated child care. Applications are accepted throughout the year. The program is administered by the Office of Child Care and Family Resources. For more information, visit occfr.wisc.edu/financial-assistance.   • MFA-Duo Rolls Out to Students

    Beginning September 9, UW–Madison students can start enrolling in multi-factor authentication from Duo. All students will be required to enroll by October 31, 2019. Instructional staff and faculty can help with the transition by encouraging their students to enroll early. The MFA-Duo KnowledgeBase offers solutions for various classroom scenarios that may require authentication of identity.

  • Bus Passes and Specialty Parking Permits Available

    Employee bus passes and afternoon, night, moped and motorcycle permits for the 2019–20 parking year can now be purchased online at go.wisc.edu/8n4lxa. You can also purchase a bus pass at one of the Transportation Services Offices: Room 124 in the WARF building, 610 Walnut St.; Room E004 in American Family Children’s Hospital, 1675 Highland Ave.; and Suite 1200 in 21 North Park St. Office hours can be found online at transportation.wisc.edu/contact-us or by calling 608-263-6666. Student bus passes will be available through the Associated Students of Madison starting August 26.

  • TTC Launches Employee Survey

    All UW–Madison employees are invited to take a two- to three-minute survey before August 23 to improve Title and Total Compensation (TTC) Project information. Your feedback will help shape the way the project provides communications and training. This survey is the first in a series of surveys that will go out to employees at regular intervals. TTC is a campus-wide initiative to attract, reward and retain university employees by determining improvements to compensation and benefits.   • August Workshops Make Teaching in Canvas Easy

    Before the semester begins, DoIT Academic Technology will offer technical training and Active Teaching Labs to help instructors make more effective use of Canvas. Participants will learn how to use Canvas to engage students, manage course materials, foster peer-to-peer interactions, track grades and more. Training sessions and labs are offered August 21–30.   • Volunteers Needed for Housing Move-In

    University Housing is looking for volunteers to help students and families have a great experience during fall move-in. Volunteers will serve as Badger Buddies, helping to load belongings into carts and bring them to residents’ rooms. All volunteers will get a free Badger Buddy T-shirt and a five-dollar voucher for each shift worked to spend at any of the campus dining halls. Volunteers are most needed on Tuesday, Aug. 27. Other available days are Saturday, Aug. 31 and Sunday, Sept. 1. Groups can be scheduled to work together as a team. Please volunteer by August 23 at go.wisc.edu/badger-buddy.
