Tips for Using MFA-Duo When Traveling

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) allows UW–Madison employees to verify their identity when logging in with a NetID and passcode. MFA-Duo users can request a single-use passcode when they do not have cellular or wireless (Wi-Fi) service by using the Duo Mobile app. Install the Duo app on your smartphone ahead of time. To authenticate your identity, open the Duo app and tap anywhere on the UW–Madison NetID login screen. This generates a six-digit temporary passcode, which can be entered in the Duo Device Management portal to complete the authentication process. You can also use a token/fob to obtain a passcode while traveling. For more information about using MFA-Duo, visit the KnowledgeBase online at kb.wisc.edu/mfa.
