  • Accept Round Two Parking Offers; Apply for Round Three

    Parking offers for those who submitted a 2018–19 parking permit application by August 7 were emailed August 8–9. These offers must be accepted and purchased by Tuesday, Aug. 21 or the offer will expire. If you applied and did not receive an offer, you were added to a waiting list and may get an offer in a future round. Those who missed the first two rounds of applications can apply from August 8–21. Bus passes, motorcycle and moped parking permits, and afternoon and night parking permits are available for purchase now through the Transportation Services eBusiness portal.   • Supplemental Dental Plan Changes for 2019

    Changes to the supplemental dental insurance plans will become effective Jan. 1, 2019. These changes should make it easier to determine which supplemental plan is best for you and your family. There will be two supplemental dental insurance plans offered in 2019: the Select Plan and the Select Plus Plan, both administered by Delta Dental. Employees currently enrolled in any of the supplemental dental insurance plans with Dental WI and/or EPIC Benefits+ will be required to make a new dental plan election during the Annual Benefits Enrollment period, Oct. 1–26, 2018, if they wish to have supplemental dental coverage in 2019. Additional information, including premium rates, will be communicated to all employees during Annual Benefits Enrollment.

  • Workshops Help Instructors Teach in Canvas

    Canvas is now the only centrally supported learning management system (LMS) on campus. Instructors and teaching assistants can learn to make the most of it by attending “Teaching Effectively in Canvas” sessions and technical trainings. A variety of topics will be offered between August 20 and August 31. “Teaching Effectively in Canvas” sessions provide strategies for applying learning principles, assessment, interactive learning, and individual learning. Technical trainings focus on file management, lesser known features of Canvas, and managing grades.

  • Volunteers Sought for Move-In Days

    University Housing is looking for volunteers to help new incoming students and their families have a great first experience on campus. Volunteers are needed to help unload vehicles at campus residence halls during move-in. All volunteers will receive a free Badger Buddy T-shirt and a voucher for a free meal in campus dining halls. The four main move-in days are Aug. 26, Aug. 28, Aug. 29, and Aug. 30. Volunteers are most needed on Sunday, Aug. 26. Find more details and sign up for a shift online.

  • Construction Projects Affect Getting Around Campus

    UW–Madison and City of Madison construction projects are affecting traffic and parking on and around campus. The Charter Street steam project and City of Madison project on W. Johnson Street will cause traffic delays in the center of campus. Near UW Hospital, University Bay Drive is undergoing a repaving project that changes access to Lots 60 and 76. A construction project and detour map is available on the campus parking maps page at transportation.wisc.edu/campus-maps. Project dates may change based on weather or other factors.   • Absentee Voting on Campus Through Thursday

    Eligible Madison voters can cast their ballots this week for the August 14 primary election at three different sites on campus. You will need to present a photo ID to receive an absentee ballot. If you are not already registered to vote at your current address, you may register to vote, with proof of residence, at any absentee voting location. Campus locations for absentee voting are Union South, second floor, 2–6 p.m.; Memorial Union, Gekas Commons, 2–6 p.m.; and Student Activity Center, sunroom, 10:15 a.m.–2 p.m. Locations are open through Thursday, Aug. 9.

  • University Housing Dining Markets Will Be Cashless

    All University Housing Dining Markets will go “cashless” and will no longer accept cash or checks at the registers beginning Sunday, Aug. 12. This will enable the markets to serve customers efficiently without long waits at the register. Accepted forms of payment include Wiscard, Visa, Discover, and MasterCard. Individuals wishing to deposit additional money onto their Wiscard can make online deposits using computer kiosks located in each Dining Market. Wiscard deposits can also be made in person by visiting the University Housing Cashier’s Office at one of three campus locations.

  • Suicide Prevention Training August 27

    “Recognize, Respond and Refer Suicide Prevention Training” will be held on Monday, Aug. 27, 9–10:30 a.m. at 21 North Park St., room 1106/1108. Participants will learn the warning signs for suicide, how to offer hope, and how to connect to campus and community resources. This no-cost, interactive session is intended for faculty and staff whose work does not involve student interaction. Visit go.wisc.edu/ie09lo to register.   • Bus passes and specialty parking permits available

    Employee bus passes and afternoon, night, moped and motorcycle permits for the 2018–2019 parking year are available for purchase beginning Aug. 1 through the Transportation Services eBusiness portal. You can also purchase a bus pass at one of the Transportation Services Offices: Room 124 in the WARF building, 610 Walnut St.; Room E004 in American Family Children’s Hospital, 1675 Highland Ave.; and Suite 1200 in 21 North Park St. Office hours are available online or by calling 608-263–6666. Student bus passes will be available through the Associated Students of Madison starting Aug. 27. Permit and bus pass details can be found on the Transportation Services website at transportation.wisc.edu.

  • Nominations Open for Pringle Award

    The Elizabeth S. Pringle Award recognizes UW–Madison employees with office support titles who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to the university. Nominations are due Aug. 17. Any UW–Madison employee may nominate a University Staff member who holds an office support job title.
