  • Employers Can Recruit Students at Job Carnival

    The campus-wide Student Job Carnival will be held Wednesday, Sept. 12, noon–4 p.m. at the Sellery Basketball Court, Gordon Terrace (rain location will be Gordon Dining and Event Center Symphony Room). The fair, open to both UW students and non–UW students, is free for both students and employers. The job carnival will be an interactive event with games, prizes, and food. Employers who would like a presence at the fair are asked to respond by Friday, Aug. 10 by completing a brief survey. Registrations after Aug. 10 will not be included in advertisements.   • Campus Drop-In Tours Available Daily

    New this summer, Campus and Visitor Relations is offering 45-minute drop-in campus tours daily at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. The tours are open to members of the community, alumni, conference attendees, or other visitors. UW–Madison’s history, academics, research, and culture are highlighted. The tour is recommended for K–8 students and adults. Tours start at the Memorial Union, 800 Langdon St. (Tours will not be offered on Aug. 21 and Aug. 31.) Groups of six or more are asked to register at least one week in advance.

  • Chancellor Blank Reflects on Five Years at UW

    Chancellor Rebecca Blank is celebrating her fifth anniversary at UW–Madison.   • Upcoming deadlines for parking offers and round 2 applications

    Parking offers for those who submitted a 2018–19 parking application before June 8 were emailed July 13–19. These offers must be accepted and purchased by Tuesday, Aug. 7 or the offer expires. Those who missed the first round of applications can apply from July 13–August 7. Offers for the second application period will be processed August 8–9. Bus passes and permits for motorcycle, moped, afternoon and night parking for 2018-19 go on sale August 1. To accept and purchase a parking offer, visit go.wisc.edu/s8g6tp. To apply for a parking permit in the second round of applications, visit go.wisc.edu/jfj079.

  • Planned Outage July 29 Will Affect Employee Access to HRS

    The Human Resources System (HRS) will be unavailable on Sunday, July 29 from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. due to HRS System maintenance. During this outage, employees will not have access to certain self-service features in MyUW. Features and documents that will not be available include online timesheets, absence reporting, benefits self-service, updates to personal information, and access to earnings statements, tax statements, leave statements, and other related documents. Features found in MyUW that are not related to the HRS System will be available during the HRS outage.

  • Campus Celebrates India Independence Day

    UW-Madison employees are invited to join the University Staff for a celebration of India Independence Day on Wednesday, Aug. 15 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Varsity Hall in Union South. The event will feature remarks by Dr. Lalita du Perron and Dr. Nandini Pandey of UW–Madison. Complimentary food and beverages will be served. The event is sponsored by the Secretary of the University Staff.

  • WRS Contribution Rates to Decrease in 2019

    The Department of Employee Trust Funds (ETF) has announced that contributions paid by Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) employees will decrease slightly for UW–Madison employees effective Jan. 1, 2019. WRS contribution rates are set and adjusted annually. According to ETF, the 2019 rate changes are primarily due to higher favorable WRS Trust Fund investment performance. Contribution rates for UW–Madison employees are determined by WRS employment category and expressed as a percentage of salary. For general employees, the contribution rates will decrease from our current rate of 6.7 percent to 6.55 percent in 2019 for both employee and employer.

  • WiscVPN Transitions to GlobalProtect August 15

    WiscVPN will complete the transition from Cisco AnyConnect to Palo Alto GlobalProtect on August 15, 2018. The new service provides enhanced protection from malicious websites, viruses, and threats. In addition, all traffic (including browsing, banking, and shopping) will now be sent through the campus VPN service when in use. Static IP users received emailed instructions on July 12. Most others on campus should use GlobalProtect now.

  • Career Management Help for UW–Madison Employees

    Career management is an ongoing process, even when you are happy in your current position. To assist UW–Madison employees with their professional development, the Division of Continuing Studies has a career counselor who specializes in advising employees through the Adult Career and Special Student Services (ACSSS) office. This free service can help employees clarify short- and long-term goals, identify learning opportunities, explore job opportunities within UW-Madison or elsewhere, and keep growing in the job they currently hold.   • Online Workshops Build Financial Skills

    Fidelity, one of the UW TSA 403(b) providers, will be presenting two free online workshops about personal finance topics in July. Each workshop lasts about one hour and will allow time for questions. Log in and use your phone to listen to the audio workshops. “Invest Confidently for Your Future,” scheduled for Tuesday, July 24, at 11 a.m. central time, will help you define your savings goals and build and manage an investment plan. “Be in the Financial Front Seat: Making Financial Health a Priority for Women” will be offered Wednesday, July 25, at 11 a.m. central time. Advance registration is required.
