    Well Wisconsin will offer “Life Hacks for Greater Health and Well-Being” on Wednesday, May 16, noon–12:30 p.m. This webinar will suggest quick and easy changes that can have substantial impacts on emotional and physical health and well-being.   • Canvas Workshops Help Instructors Improve Effectiveness

    With this semester’s experience fresh in mind, instructors and teaching assistants can start improving their Canvas courses for next year by attending “Teaching Effectively in Canvas” sessions and technical trainings. A variety of topics will be offered between May 21 and June 1. “Teaching Effectively in Canvas” sessions provide strategies for applying learning principles, assessment, interactive learning, and individual learning. Technical trainings focus on file management, lesser known features of Canvas, and managing grades.

  • Terrace Store Pop Up Shop Extended to May 19

    The Terrace Store Pop Up features the 2018 Terrace merchandise collection, including Terrace-themed apparel, gifts, and more at all price ranges. The shop will be available until May 19, rather than May 12 as previously announced. The Memorial Union Terrace Store Pop Up Shop is open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Paul Bunyan room on the first floor of Memorial Union. Proceeds from the Terrace Store help support UW–Madison student leadership opportunities. This store is available for a limited time only. Online shopping is also available at terracestore.union.wisc.edu.

  • Outside employment reporting for University Staff

    UW–Madison University Staff employees are not prohibited from accepting additional jobs outside the university if the job does not interfere with their UW duties. UW System policy prohibits University Staff employees from accepting outside employment that causes a conflict of interest with their university employment. If a University Staff member is considering or is currently working at an additional job outside the UW, they need to determine if the outside job duties may be in conflict with their UW job duties. In these situations, employees should provide details about the outside employment to their supervisor. The supervisor will let the employee know if they are able to proceed or continue with the outside employment. University Staff members who are not sure whether they need to take action or have questions about the policy should speak with their supervisor.

  • New conference for research staff launches

    The inaugural Research Staff Professional Development Conference will take place Wednesday, June 20, 9 a.m.–2 p.m. (with registration and continental breakfast at 8 a.m.) in Cooper Hall at the School of Nursing. The conference will focus on the professional development needs of research staff who work as laboratory technicians or laboratory managers across campus. This free event will feature breakout sessions, a keynote presentation, and complimentary lunch. For details and to register by June 11, visit go.wisc.edu/ec0sd4.

  • Deadline approaching for Teaching and Learning Symposium

    The annual Teaching and Learning Symposium will take place on Thursday, May 17 at Union South. This day-long event brings together members of the UW–Madison teaching community to share best practices, celebrate accomplishments, and discuss new learning and teaching practices and theories. Event features include a keynote presentation, breakout sessions, a poster session, lunch, and networking. UW-Madison faculty, staff, post-doctoral students, and graduate students are welcome to attend at no cost. The registration deadline is May 10.

    TeachOnline@UW is now accepting applications for the 2018–2019 program for UW–Madison faculty and instructional staff who will be teaching fully online courses in the next two years. This unique learning community helps UW–Madison instructors explore and implement research-based online course design and teaching best practices. Two courses are included: “Plan & Design” and “Facilitation and Management.”

  • Bucky's Workout at Camp Randall Stadium

    All UW–Madison faculty, staff, and students are invited to attend a free workout at Camp Randall Stadium on Wednesday, May 23, noon to 12:45 p.m. This high-energy, low-stress workout takes place on the Badgers’ 50-yard line. The workout is appropriate for all fitness levels, and accommodations will be available for all physical abilities. In the event of rain, the event will take place at the McClain Center.   • Thrive@UW–Madison Courses Available

    Thrive@UW–Madison courses help UW–Madison employees develop the knowledge and skills they need to contribute to healthy, inclusive, engaging work environments. Registration is now available for courses in the spring and summer. A new course, “Exploring Creativity and Innovation,” will be offered beginning June 5. A new all-day event on July 11, “Expanding Self-Knowledge to Create Inclusive Environments,” combines two current Thrive courses. Thrive@UW courses may be taken in any sequence.   • Registration Open for IT Professionals Conference

    The IT Professionals Conference 2018 is now accepting registrations. The event will take place May 31, 8:30 a.m.–4:45 p.m., at the Wisconsin School of Business, Grainger Hall, 975 University Ave. Organized by and for IT professionals, the conference forges meaningful connections among campus IT staff by sharing experiences, skills, and technologies. Wallace Chase, executive director of Networking and Telecommunications at Clemson University, will be the keynote speaker. Registration is due May 15 and includes a $40 fee.
