Continuing Studies Grants for Academic Staff
UW–Madison provides grants for academic staff to attend certain noncredit courses offered by the Division of Continuing Studies at no cost. The program invites academic staff to take courses on topics in leadership development, business management, training and development, career planning, and diversity and inclusion. The grant program is funded by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration, working in partnership with the Professional Development and Recognition Committee. Online applications will be accepted through March 1, 2019.

Professional Development Series Builds Self-Awareness
Thrive@UW is a six-course series offered at no cost to UW–Madison employees. Participants explore key skills they can use in their personal and professional lives. Course offerings focus on the topics of work relationships, inclusive work environments, self-knowledge, creativity and innovation, thriving in a time of change, and communicating effectively to support collaboration. Courses are scheduled throughout the spring semester and can be taken in any sequence. UW faculty and staff can register for one or more courses, or complete the entire series.

Employee Learning Center Teaches English
UW–Madison employees, including J-1 Visa scholars, are invited to participate in English practice and conversation about cultural topics at the Employee Learning Center. Cultural Linguistic Services holds these sessions on Wednesdays, 4–5:30 p.m. at 21 North Park Street, room 1108. Sessions may include lessons in pronunciation, idioms, or listening to fast speech, as well as special activities or guest speakers. The sessions are free, and employees are welcome to drop in without making an appointment or registering in advance.

Applications Open Soon for University Staff Scholarships
University Staff employees will be able to apply for Professional Development Scholarships beginning on Thursday, Feb. 14 at 1 p.m. The scholarships can be used to register for non-credit courses at no charge. Approximately 30 courses will be offered through the Division of Continuing Studies. Applications will be awarded on a first-come-first-served basis until all the scholarship funds have been used. Employees who are interested in receiving scholarships are encouraged to act quickly. The scholarship program is funded by the office of the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration. Academic Staff Can Apply for Professional Development Grants
Applications are now being accepted for the Spring 2019 Academic Staff Professional Development Grant program. The program is offered to academic staff members who meet the eligibility requirements and hold at least a 50 percent appointment. Grants are for activities beginning between July 1 and December 31, 2019. Two free informational sessions will be offered on “Writing a Successful Professional Development Grant.” The first session will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 6, noon–1 p.m. in the Health Sciences Learning Center, room 3260. On Tuesday, Feb. 12, a second session will be held noon–1 p.m. in Union South (check TITU for room). If you have questions, please contact Jake Smith at pdrc@soas.wisc.edu or 263-2985. Register Now for America Saves Week Events
UW–Madison faculty and staff can learn about financial wellness during America Saves Week, February 25–March 1, 2019. America Saves Week offers a variety of tools to help individuals and families save money, reduce debt, and save for the future. In-person workshops, live webinars, counseling sessions, and educational materials are offered. Advance registration is required for events. Workplace Workouts Come to Campus
The Workplace Workout program offered by UW–Madison Recreational Sports (“Rec Sports”) invites employees to get up and move for better fitness and health. Personal trainers lead weekly lunchtime workouts and exercises that can be done anywhere. Workouts will be held on Tuesdays, February 5–March 12, 11:45 a.m.–12:30 p.m. at Memorial Union. Wednesday sessions will be offered February 6–March 13, 11:45 a.m.–12:30 p.m. at Union South. Each session includes six classes for $30. All fitness levels are welcome, and a Rec Sports membership is not required to participate. Register at recsports.wisc.edu/workplace-workouts.

Office Professionals Conference Call for Proposals
The 29th Annual Office Professionals Conference will take place on Wednesday, April 24, 8 a.m.–3:30 p.m. at Union South. Those who wish to present at the conference are invited to submit session proposals by Friday, Feb. 15. Conference organizers are seeking proposals on these topics: building influence, campus resources, relationship building, workplace skills, wellness, and engagement, inclusion, and diversity. Registration is also open for the conference, which offers UW–Madison employees skill building, networking, and practical tools for personal enrichment and professional development. Early bird registration is $100 for those who register and pay by February 15.

Regents' Academic Staff Excellence Awards Nominations Due
Nominations are now being accepted for the 2019 Regents’ Academic Staff Excellence Awards. These awards recognize non-instructional academic staff. Across UW System, there will be two individual recipients, and a third award to honor an outstanding program. The awards will be presented at the June 7, 2019 meeting of the Board of Regents. Awards criteria and nomination guidelines are available online. All nomination materials should be submitted through the application website.
