Campus IT Professionals Conference is June 22
Organized by your fellow IT professionals, the June 22 UW-Madison IT Professionals Conference was designed to forge meaningful connections among campus IT staff. Submit your ideas for a session and register for the event. Cost is $35 per person. Topics include DevOps, Cloud, Security, Web hosting, Development, Instructional Technology, Research IT, Databases, Customer Service, Linux, Containers, Windows, Mobile and more.

Construction affects Observatory Drive, University ramp
Utility work trenching across Observatory Drive will cause detours over the next few weeks. Starting Monday, May 15, Observatory Drive between Elm Drive and Easterday Lane will be one-way westbound only. Eastbound traffic will be detoured at Easterday onto Linden Drive until approximately May 29. Then, starting Tuesday, May 30, Observatory Drive will be closed to both directions of traffic for about a week. All traffic between Elm and Easterday will be detoured to Linden Drive. In addition, A City of Madison utility project will close the exit ramp from eastbound University Avenue onto “Old” University Avenue from Monday, May 15 through Friday, May 26. For commuters who take University Avenue to Highland Avenue or Walnut Street, the best alternative during this construction would be to turn left at University Bay Drive and proceed to Highland Avenue.

Apply for parking for the 2017-18 year
Eligible UW-Madison employees can now apply for 2017-18 parking, valid Sept. 1, 2017, through Aug. 31, 2018. Lot assignments are made based on the parking priorities assigned by your department. The deadline to apply for the first round of assignments is June 9. To apply, visit https://www.fpm.wisc.edu/trans/permits/Default.aspx. First round lot assignment offers will be emailed to permit holders July 14 through July 20. Offers must be accepted and purchased by Aug. 8.

Commencement ceremonies to be Friday, Saturday
Commencement ceremonies will be held this weekend on Friday, May 12, and Saturday, May 13. No tickets are required for either ceremony. The ceremony for doctoral and medical professional candidates will be at 5:30 p.m. Friday at the Kohl Center. The ceremony for bachelor’s, master’s and law degree candidates will be at noon Saturday at Camp Randall Stadium. After this weekend, UW bus routes will go to recess schedules, and dining halls will go to summer hours.

Transportation Services to raise rates for parking, bus passes
Transportation Services has announced its rate structures for next year, raising the current $24 employee bus pass fee to $36 and also raising parking rates. The changes are being implemented for the 2017-18 parking year, which runs Sept. 1, 2017 to Aug. 31, 2018. The bus pass increase is the first in four years and the increase in parking rates is part of the conversion of the three-tier rate category system to a two-tier system. Chart of all 2017-18 rates. The conversion to a two-tier system began in the 2013-14 parking year. By 2019, the plan will place all parking structures and high-demand surface lots into one category, and all remaining surface lots in another.

This summer, start your mornings at Allen Centennial Garden with Sunrise Outdoor Yoga. This class is taught by Rec Sports yoga instructors and is designed to energize the body and stimulate the mind. Whether you’re a regular yogi or brand new, this class will leave you feeling more open and connected. This class is open to all UW-Madison faculty, staff and students. You do not need a Rec Sports membership to join.

Are you designing or redesigning a fully online course? Apply now for an opportunity to participate in the 2017-18 TeachOnline@UW program. TeachOnline@UW is a unique learning community where participants explore and implement research-based online course design and teaching best practices. Participate in either or both the fall “Plan and Design Course” or the spring “Facilitation and Management” course. Stipends will be provided based on participation in the learning community: $1,500 for participation across two semesters; $750 for one semester. Apply by Monday, July 10.

Volunteers sought to help with move-out
As more than 7,400 students prepare to move out of the University Residence Halls, the Division of University Housing is asking for volunteers to help residents and their families say goodbye sustainably to items they no longer need. From May 6 – 13, recycling/donation locations will be located near residence halls to allow convenient access to donation and recycling opportunities. In 2016, more than 170 volunteers provided more than 600 hours of staffing at donation/recycling locations. RecSports reduces hours during finals
UW-Madison Recreational Sports facilities will have adjusted hours for final exams week next week, May 6-12. The SERF and Nat will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on May 6 and 7; 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on May 8 to 11; and 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on May 12. The Shell will be open 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. May 6 and 7; 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. May 8-11; and 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. May 12. All three, and Nielsen Tennis Stadium, will be closed commencement weekend, May 13 and 14. In addition, the Nat will be closed for cleaning and maintenance May 15-21. For summer hours, go here.

National Bike Challenge begins this month
The National Bike Challenge is a nationwide event from May 1 through Sept. 30, uniting thousands of current bicyclists — and encouraging many new riders. The 2017 Challenge is hosted by the League of American Bicyclists and supported by 3M.
