  • BCycle free rides during Grand Opening week

    In partnership with UW Transportation Services, Madison BCycle is offering free 30-minute rides during their Grand Opening week, March 26 to April 1. Riders can redeem promo code “20176736” at any Madison BCycle station. The code activates a 24-hour pass that allows unlimited 30-minute rides. UW Transportation Services has a partnership with Madison BCycle for discounted annual passes for UW-Madison students, faculty and staff. To get an annual pass for $20 (a $65 value), sign up with your UW email and use these promo codes: UW students (code WISCSTUDENT), UW & UW Health employees (code WISCFACULTY) and UW Extension employees (code UWEXTENSION).

  • Terrace season has traditional, new programs

    Memorial Union Terrace will open this season with the community’s favorite traditions, new events, and new dining and recreation options. Noticeably missing will be construction nearby on Memorial Union’s first floor, which opened in December 2016 and will be open this Terrace season. The return of Terrace season will include the return of Terrace After Dark, a summer-long event series that blends music and film with warm summer nights. The opening date for the Memorial Union Terrace has not yet been determined. The Terrace generally opens in mid- to late April, depending on the weather.

  • Lot 3 closes to make way for music center

    Lot 3 will close permanently April 1, 2017, as construction begins on the new Music Performance Center. In light of this closure, Lot 3 base lot permit holders are being relocated; permit holders, please check your emails for more information. All vehicles must be removed from Lot 3 by 7 a.m. on Saturday, April 1. Any vehicles in the lot past 7 a.m. will be towed at the owner’s expense.

  • Life insurance premium, coverage info available

    UW-Madison employees’ new  State Group Life Insurance premium and coverage level, effective April 1, is available by visiting https://uwservice.wisc.edu/administration/sgl-notice/. It’s based on your age as of April 1 each year and your highest calendar year of Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) earnings. If you have changed age categories, or have had a salary change since April 1, 2016, then your premium may change effective April 1, 2017. Premiums will be reflected on the March 30, 2017 paycheck for University Staff paid biweekly and the March 31, 2017 paycheck for Faculty/Academic Staff/Limited Appointees paid monthly. If you did not have an age category or salary change, your premium will remain the same. If you have questions, contact your human resources office.

  • Adobe Creative now licensed for work and home

    Currently employed UW-Madison faculty and staff can now access Adobe Creative Cloud with a breadth of Adobe services at no cost to them, both at home and at work. Previously, UW-Madison faculty and staff could use Adobe Creative Cloud desktop apps at no cost on work devices only. Creative Cloud is Adobe’s suite of graphic design, video editing, web development, photography, and cloud services. Access Adobe Cloud and Services by following the directions outlined here: https://kb.wisc.edu/69772. Check with your area’s IT staff before installing any software on UW-owned computers.

  • Dining, workout, bus hours change during break

    UW-Madison workout facilities will have adjusted hours during spring break, March 18-25, closing earlier than usual. The Natatorium, Shell and SERF will all close at 8 p.m. most days during break. In addition, several UW dining halls will be closed during the break, while others have changed hours. Finally, some UW campus bus routes will be on their limited recess service schedules. Regular hours resume Monday, March 27. Working at UW will not be issued during spring break; the next edition will come on Wednesday, March 29.

  • WIAA tournament to shift some parking permits

    The WIAA boys basketball tournament will be Thursday, March 16, through Saturday, March 18 in the Kohl Center. Many UW-Madison parking permit holders will temporarily relocate to accommodate tournament attendees. Permit holders may refer to the relocation map and webpage for relocation information. Affected permit holders received an email with additional information on Monday, March 13. Expect delays due to additional vehicle and pedestrian traffic.   • Two scams = big headaches for you

    Two new scams are realistic looking but deceptive, one involving a Gmail attachment and the other a supposed Netflix email. The first involves an email with a plausible subject, and an attachment that takes users to a fake Google sign-in page where personal information can be collected. Remember, any email asking you for account information is probably a scam. The latest Netflix email scam does just that, asking users to click on a link from an email, that sends users to a website that looks very similar to an official Netflix login page. Simply don’t click on links in this kind of email. The UW-Madison Division of Information Technology has put together a guide to help identify email scams to help.

  • Work starts to prepare Witte for construction

    Beginning this month, some site preparation work will be done outside Witte Residence Hall to get ready for summer construction. This will include excavation work, fencing, tree removals, and closing of all of the Witte backyard spaces. Construction hours will be limited to minimize impact on residents, and work will be restricted during finals week and move-out. Witte, which opened in 1964, is a two-tower structure that is home to 1,150 residents in double rooms. University Housing is planning a major renovation to this building over a two-year span to address mechanical issues, improve the resident spaces and upgrade the facilities.

  • Active shooter response training dates are set

    The UW-Madison Police Department is conducting several Active Shooter Response training presentations for students, faculty and staff, designed to provide an overview of an active shooter event. The instructors are experienced law enforcement trainers whose main goal is to share tactics and techniques that can and will help you survive a crisis — specifically, to survive an active shooter incident.
