  • New UW park and ride lot opening on Madison's northeast side

    A new park and ride lot located at Aberg and Packers Avenue will add approximately 300 spaces for affordable employee parking. The lot will be served by a free shuttle. Employees may now submit an application to be considered for a parking permit. Details are available at transportation.wisc.edu.

  • Employee Assistance Office moving to new campus location

    The Employee Assistance Office (EAO) is relocating to the 11th floor of the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF), 614 Walnut Street. Two parking spaces at WARF will be reserved for EAO clients. Visitors may also use the Madison Metro bus system. In-person appointments with EAO counselors at the new location will begin in September. Appointments are also available virtually and by phone. The EAO offers counseling and consultation for personal or work-related concerns at no cost to UW–Madison faculty, staff, graduate student employees, significant others, and family members. Through LifeMatters, the EAO provides free and confidential telephone access to professional counselors 24/7 and statewide. For more information, visit eao.wisc.edu.

  • Upcoming sessions for prospective volunteer tutors

    The Volunteer Tutoring Program at UW‒Madison matches employees with tutors who provide one-on-one instruction in conversation practice, basic English skills for reading and writing, or learning about the U.S. culture. Tutors receive training and may choose to earn an online Tutor Training Certificate. Informational sessions about becoming a tutor will be held online via Zoom on August 29, September 4, and September 10. Advance registration is not required, and there is no obligation to volunteer after attending. UW‒Madison employees, students, and community members are all welcome to volunteer.

  • August 30 football game to impact campus parking

    Thousands of visitors will be in Madison and the campus area Friday, Aug. 30, as the Wisconsin Badgers kick off their 2024 football season. Most parking lots will be open to permit holders during the day before transitioning to event-only parking in the evening. Transportation Services will email specific parking information to permit holders based on their assigned lot. Employees and supervisors are encouraged to consider alternatives that day such as flexible work arrangements, carpooling, biking, or taking the bus.

    A new resource from UW–Madison answers questions about political campaign and public advocacy activities on campus. Political Activity and Public Advocacy on Campus: Guidelines for Fall 2024 provides information on rights, restrictions, and resources. Employees and students should use this information to guide their decisions in the upcoming election season and to find answers to questions about permissible campaign and political activity.

  • Parking permit update from Transportation Services

    Round 3 offers for 2024‒25 annual permits (base lot, Flex, UW Accessible, and park and ride) must be claimed by August 27. Round 4 applications for annual permits are also due on August 27. Round 4 offers will be emailed August 28. Find details at transportation.wisc.edu.

  • Event welcomes new academic staff in instructional roles

    A Teaching and Learning Welcome will be held on Tuesday, August 27, 10 a.m.–2 p.m. at the Pyle Center. The event is designed for individuals who have recently started new instructional roles and are classified as academic staff. Participants will learn about campus resources and connect with other instructors, instructional support offices, and leadership. Featured speakers include Provost Charles Lee Isbell, Jr., Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Lori Reesor, and others. This event is offered at no cost; online registration is requested.

    LifeMatters and the Employee Assistance Office are offering a virtual webinar, Mind-Body Wellness, on Tuesday, Aug. 27, noon‒1 p.m. Attendees will explore the difference between control and letting go and learn how to practice mindfulness, guided relaxation, conscious breathing, and gentle stretching.   • Remote Work policy and agreement updated

    The UW–Madison Remote Work policy and Remote Work Agreement form have been updated effective August 1, 2024. Employees working remotely who have not completed a new agreement for the new fiscal year (July 1–June 30) are required to submit a new agreement. The deadline for submitting your Remote Work Agreement is Oct. 1, 2024. Going forward, employees working remotely will need to submit a new form at the start of each fiscal year (July 1–June 30). Additional details, including instructions on how to complete a Remote Work Agreement, can be found at hr.wisc.edu/remote-work.
