Career Management Help for UW–Madison Employees
Career management is an ongoing process, even when you are happy in your current position. To assist UW–Madison employees with their professional development, the Division of Continuing Studies has added a career counselor who will specialize in advising employees through the Adult Career and Special Student Services (ACSSS) office. This free service can help employees clarify short- and long-term goals, identify learning opportunities, explore job possibilities within UW–Madison or elsewhere, and keep growing in the job they currently hold. New International Travel Guidelines
New changes to the U.S. Department of State’s (DoS) Travel Advisory System will likely impact how UW–Madison students, faculty, and staff plan and prepare for university-affiliated travel to other nations. The university’s travel policy is based on the travel guidelines set by the DoS and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. UW–Madison offers a variety of resources for travelers preparing to go abroad. Information about the current travel policy and other critical information can be found on the university’s International Safety and Security website.

Pay Adjustments Coming for Faculty and Staff
UW–Madison has announced that Faculty, Academic Staff, University Staff, and Limited Appointees will be receiving pay increases totaling 4 percent under the 2017–2019 pay plan. The four percent increase will be phased in, with the first 2 percent taking effect in July 2018 and the second 2 percent in January of 2019. To be eligible to receive the increases, individuals must have been employed in their current positions by January 8, 2018, must complete UW–Madison’s sexual harassment prevention training, and must be meeting performance expectations as identified in their last performance evaluation. Supervisors must complete performance evaluations for the employees they supervise.

Pay Increase Announced for Certain UW–Madison Employees
UW–Madison has announced a pay increase of up to 50 cents per hour for employees in the University Staff category who earn less than $15 per hour. Any current employee designated as University Staff who earns less than $15 per hour will receive an increase in hourly pay beginning with hours worked January 21, 2018. The exact amount of the increase will vary based on the individual’s current pay rate. Individual employees may receive an increase of up to 50 cents per hour, for a total pay rate that will not be more than $15 per hour.

Free Session Introduces Google Analytics
Google Analytics is a tool for capturing and analyzing visitor traffic to your website. WiscWeb DoIT is hosting “What Can You Do with Google Analytics?” on Wednesday, Feb. 7, 8:30–10:30 a.m. in the Memorial Library (728 State Street), Room 126. The session is designed for anyone who is interested in using Google Analytics to inform their strategies for getting more website visitors. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged. An additional session is tentatively scheduled for March 28.

Event Supports Employee Career Development
The UW–Madison Employee Career Conference, “Construct Your Career at UW,” will be held on Tuesday, March 6, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. at Union South. This free conference is designed to support the career development of UW–Madison employees at every stage of the career life cycle. Workshops will provide the skills and tools needed to meet one’s career goals while remaining employed at UW–Madison. Employees may attend for the full day or come and go based on their interests and schedule. Managers and supervisors are encouraged to approve requests from staff to attend. Please register by Monday, Feb. 19 to reserve your spot at the conference.

Register for a Health Screening on Campus
UW–Madison employees who are enrolled in the State of Wisconsin Group Health Insurance Program can take advantage of on-campus health screenings. Measurements for blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), cholesterol (HDL, LDL and total), triglycerides, and glucose will be provided. The screening takes approximately 20 minutes. To register for a health screening, log in or create a new account at wellwisconsin.staywell.com. Then, click on “Screenings” at the top of the page and search by zip code. Be sure to check back, as additional screenings will be scheduled. You can also check with your departmental Wellness Champion or HR contact.

Nominations Open for University Staff Award
Each year, a committee of University Staff shared governance evaluates nominations and selects eight winners of the University Staff Recognition Awards. Nominations are now open and UW–Madison employees are encouraged to submit their nominations of outstanding workers by the February 9 deadline. Guidelines for nominations can be found at ous.wisc.edu. Nominations can be submitted online or delivered to the Office of the Secretary, 271 Bascom Hall. Winners will be presented with a plaque and a monetary award at a public ceremony in March.

Living Wage Recently Increased at UW–Madison
UW–Madison is committed to paying a living wage to all University Staff in hourly positions. The living wage standard has increased from $12.85 per hour to $13.01 per hour as of December 24, 2017. UW–Madison follows the City of Madison living wage standard. The increase applies to all University Staff and Temporary Employees. Employees do not receive the living wage if they are in special employment programs or if an individual indicates that a higher rate of pay would adversely affect their eligibility for benefits programs such as Social Security or disability. The living wage policy does not apply to student employees.

Review Your Benefits Enrollments
Please review your earnings statement and make sure the 2018 benefits changes you requested during Annual Benefits Enrollment have been made. Your earnings statement can be found in the MyUW portal at my.wisc.edu. You can also review your benefits elections as listed in the “Benefit Information” module in the MyUW portal. If you find any errors or identify other concerns, please send an email to benefits@ohr.wisc.edu by January 30, 2018. You can learn how to read your earnings statement at uwservice.wisconsin.edu/help/earnings-statement. You can also ask the payroll and benefits or human resources representative in your school or division for assistance.
