  • Upcoming sessions for prospective volunteer tutors

    The Volunteer Tutoring Program at UW‒Madison matches employees with tutors who provide one-on-one instruction in conversation practice, basic English skills for reading and writing, or learning about the U.S. culture. Tutors have the option to receive online training and may choose to earn a Tutor Training Certificate. Informational sessions about becoming a tutor will be held online via Zoom on Jan. 16, Jan. 22, and Jan. 28. There is no obligation to volunteer after attending. UW employees, students, and community members are all welcome to volunteer.

  • University Staff leave balances starting January 1, 2025

    As previously announced, starting Jan. 1, 2025, University Staff employees will transition to a new leave schedule. During the one-time transition period from January 1 to June 30, 2025, employees will receive half of their vacation allocation, half of their personal holiday leave, and three legal holidays. Updated leave balances will become available to view in MyUW in early January.

  • New learning module explores data governance and responsible use

    A new learning resource for employees, Data@UW – Data Governance and Responsible Use, provides information on how to protect the institutional data that employees collect and/or use every day. Many employees work with institutional data such as student information, paper copies of benefits elections, utility maps of campus buildings, or digital databases accessed remotely. The 30-minute, self-paced module explores the use and protection of institutional data across UW–Madison’s worksites, and helps employees understand their individual responsibilities. This employee learning module is a collaboration between Data, Academic Planning, and Institutional Research (DAPIR) and Learning and Talent Development.

  • Check your address in MyUW for tax form distribution

    All employees are encouraged to make sure their address information is up to date prior to the distribution of tax forms such as the W-2 form. Please review your address and make any updates by Jan. 10 to guarantee that your address has been received in time for tax form distribution. To update your address, go to MyUW > Personal Information > Update My Personal Information. Employees may also consent to electronic-only W-2 and/or 1095-C Form delivery by Jan. 15, 2025.

  • MLK Symposium: An Evening with Donzaleigh Abernathy

    The 2025 MLK Symposium, hosted by Student Affairs and the Division of Diversity, Equity & Educational Achievement, will feature actress, author, and activist Donzaleigh Abernathy. The event will be held in person at The Wisconsin Union Theater, Shannon Hall, and virtually via live stream on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 5:30–7 p.m. Doors open at 5 p.m. for ticket holders. Free tickets for in-person and virtual attendance may be reserved online.

  • Video series offers first look at Workday

    The Workday Employee and Manager Self-Service User Experience Testing (UXT) Video Series provides employees with a preview of Workday before formal training begins in spring 2025. The digital shorts, which run two to five minutes in length, showcase key features and functionality of Workday such as how to request an absence, how to view supervisory organization charts, changes specific to UW–Madison, learning resources for managers and employees, and more.

  • University Staff have until end of year to swap sick leave

    University Staff who used sick leave in 2024 may be able to change the type of leave they used and instead use personal holiday, floating holiday, vacation, or vacation carryover hours they have accrued. An employee may wish to consider a “sick leave swap” if they have unused leave that would expire at the end of the calendar year. Employees may also wish to consider swapping sick leave to reduce or maintain Income Continuation Insurance (ICI) premiums or to take advantage of deferred enrollment into the ICI program during the ICI Annual Review. Any requests to swap one type of leave for another must be submitted by Dec. 27, 2024. Employees should contact their local human resources office with any questions.

  • Parking restrictions waived for winter holidays; changes to bus service

    Transportation Services will waive some on-campus parking restrictions due to reduced Metro Transit bus service on the upcoming Christmas, New Year’s, and Martin Luther King Jr. Day holidays. There are also reduced parking restrictions on December 23 and 30. To learn more, visit transportation.wisc.edu.

  • Guidance for solo hazardous work available

    Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) has a new online resource for employees performing work alone in hazardous or potentially hazardous environments. As part of the UW System policy on Working in Isolation, highly hazardous work may only occur with written approval. Supervisors are solely responsible for approving high-hazard work that occurs in isolation and must notify EH&S.
