    An updated tile on MyUW gives employees easy access to professional development opportunities, including programs, workshops, conferences, career counseling, and more. Employees can also access their learning transcripts and registrations for upcoming events after logging in with their NetID.   • Deadline approaching to submit Diversity Forum session proposals

    The UW–Madison Division of Diversity, Equity & Educational Achievement (DDEEA) is accepting breakout session proposals for the annual Diversity Forum this fall. This year’s Diversity Form will be held on November 13 and 14 at Union South. Sessions will also be streamed online. The theme will be Threads of Belonging: Navigating Differences and Building Community. Breakout sessions can take the form of workshops, panel discussions or lectures. Criteria for a successful proposal can be found on the DDEEA website. The deadline to submit a proposal is Monday, June 10.

  • Employee Appreciation Ice Cream Socials coming in June

    All employees are invited to Employee Appreciation Ice Cream Socials on Tuesday, June 11 and Thursday, June 13. This annual event is held to thank employees for their hard work and dedication. On June 11, from 1-2:30 p.m., UW‒Madison leaders will be handing out free Babcock ice cream on Bascom Hill (weather permitting) and as supplies last. Ice cream will be served in cups in two areas of Bascom Hill, including one area with flat or gentle surface slopes for greater accessibility. In case of rain or severe weather, the event will move to Birge Hall. On June 13, from 10 p.m. to midnight, there will be free Babcock ice cream in the Lake Mendota Room at Dejope Residence Hall for second- and third-shift employees.   • May 30 paycheck will not include most deductions

    All UW–Madison employees are paid biweekly on Thursdays. Benefits deductions for insurance premiums and voluntary benefit elections are taken across the first two biweekly paychecks paid in the month. In May 2024, there are three pay dates of May 2, May 16, and May 30. The paycheck on May 30 will include only the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) deduction; deductions for insurance premiums and voluntary benefit elections 403b Supplemental Retirement Program and Wisconsin Deferred Compensation 457b will not be taken. The check paid on June 6, 2024, will resume all benefits deductions.

  • New video provides benefits overview in six languages

    A new video, “Benefits 2024: Benefits Overview for UW–Madison Employees,” is now available online in six languages. The video provides a concise summary of important benefits options in easy-to-understand language, with versions available in English, Spanish, Hmong, Tibetan, Chinese and Nepali. The video provides employees who are eligible for the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) with basic information about WRS, health insurance, supplemental insurance, and life and disability insurance. The information is designed for new employees and anyone who would like to refresh their knowledge of benefits. Learn more about benefits and find the videos at benefits.wisc.edu.

  • Virtual series helps employees grow their careers at UW–Madison

    Career Development@UW is a new virtual learning series designed to empower employees to take charge of their careers and explore opportunities for growth within UW–Madison. Three upcoming workshops are offered. The first workshop, scheduled for Wednesday, June 5, 11 a.m. to noon, will be an introduction to career development, career planning, and the resources available for career growth at UW–Madison. Additional workshops will be offered on creating an action plan to achieve career goals on July 23, and professional development with the 70–20–10 model on August 22.   • Workshop prepares instructors for the fall semester

    Ready, Set, Teach! is a one-day workshop scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 28, at the Pyle Center. Offered by the Center for Teaching, Learning & Mentoring, this workshop is designed to help instructors start the semester with confidence and coordination. The workshop provides both new and returning instructors with focused time to think about their teaching, along with ideas for new, evidence-based approaches that can be applied right away. Registration is now open for Reach, Set, Teach!, which is offered at no cost to everyone with instructional roles at UW–Madison.

  • Free webinar teaches conflict management skills

    LifeMatters and the Employee Assistance Office are offering a virtual webinar, Conflict Management, on Tuesday, May 28, noon–1 p.m. via Zoom. While everyone experiences conflict in the workplace, we can all develop skills to help navigate these situations. Participants will learn how to better manage and grow from conflict situations.     A new online hub from Leadership and Talent Development, “Grow as a Leader,” highlights resources for employees who wish to develop their leadership potential, regardless of their current positions at UW–Madison. Both current and aspiring leaders will find courses and workshops, seminars, conferences, coaching and consultation opportunities, and communities of practice — most of which are offered free to charge to UW employees. Professional development opportunities that support leadership development are provided for individuals, supervisors/managers, faculty, organizational leaders, and student leaders.

  • Women and Leadership Symposium registration deadline approaching

    The Women and Leadership Symposium brings together engaged professionals for networking, professional development, learning from women leaders, and sharing of best practices. This year’s event is scheduled for Tuesday, June 18, 8:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. at Union South. In addition to the keynote address on leadership in times of uncertainty, there will be 28 breakout sessions on topics related to relationship building, well-being, building influence, career management, workplace skills, and equity, inclusion and diversity. The registration fee is $100 for UW–Madison faculty and staff. Register by June 3 to secure your place.
