    UW–Madison created a knowledges and skills hub for employees who want to grow and explore learning opportunities related to their job title. These resources can be found in the Title and Standard Job Description (SJD) Library, where most job titles are matched to a set of knowledges and skills. To access these resources, employees can browse the full list of knowledges and skills, refine their search on the hub home page, or explore the Title and SJD Library to find knowledges and skills matched to specific job titles.

  • Virtual session helps employees construct their careers

    Career Development@UW is a new virtual learning series that can empower employees to take charge of their careers and explore opportunities for growth within UW–Madison. The next virtual workshop, Constructing Your Career at UW–Madison, is scheduled for Tuesday, July 23, 1–2 p.m. Participants will reflect on their career journeys, discover campus-based learning options, and learn how to create a plan to achieve their career goals.   • Webinar looks at generational diversity in the workplace

    LifeMatters and the Employee Assistance Office are offering a virtual webinar, Generational Diversity, on Tuesday, July 23, noon‒1 p.m. For the first time in history, there are four different generations in the workplace.   • Career counseling available as an employee benefit

    UW‒Madison employees have access to free career counseling. The Employee Career Counseling program gives employees the skills to manage, develop, and plan their careers at UW‒Madison. One-on-one, confidential counseling can help participants develop self-awareness, explore career choices, set goals, and develop an action plan. Self-service career planning resources are also available online.   • New video previews time and absence tracking in Workday

    As part of the Administrative Transformation Program (ATP), UW‒Madison will transition to Workday, a cloud-based software platform that will streamline and simplify administrative processes. The Workday Manage Absence Calendar will replace our current tools for tracking time off and leaves of absence. All employees will use Workday to request time off, request leaves of absence, track the approval process, see absence balances in real time, and more. A mobile app will also be available. A new video, What’s Changing with Time and Absence, provides a preview. The What’s Changing videos are not intended as training; employee training will begin in spring 2025.   • Leadership and Management Development Conference call for proposals

    Learning and Talent Development is hosting the annual Leadership and Management Development Conference at Union South on Tuesday, October 29. The conference provides emerging and advanced leaders, as well as those who are not in a direct leadership position, with professional development to enhance their skills and manage more effectively. Proposals are invited from potential speakers who would like to present either 2.5-hour or 75-minute breakout sessions. Criteria for successful proposals and possible topics are available on the conference website. Proposals are due August 6.

  • Some parking restrictions waived for holiday

    Due to the legal holiday on July 4, parking permits will not be required in most surface lots July 4–5. Parking in these lots will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. All garages and ramps will be under normal weekday operation on July 5.

  • Pay plan increase to take effect in July

    In July, UW–Madison will provide a 2 percent wage increase to eligible employees under the 2023–2025 pay plan. Faculty, academic staff, university staff, limited appointees, research associates, and research interns may be eligible for pay plan. Some employee categories, including temporary employees and student hourly employees, are not eligible.

    The 2 percent increase will be effective June 30, 2024, for employees with 12-month appointments, and these employees will see the increase on the earnings statement for July 25, 2024. For employees with 9-month (academic year) appointments, the increase will be effective Aug. 19, 2024, and will appear on the earnings statement for Sept. 5, 2024. Employees who are receiving the pay increase will receive a written communication informing them of their new pay rate.

    To be eligible to receive the pay increases, individuals must have been employed in their current positions on June 29, 2024 (for employees with 12-month appointments) or Aug. 18, 2024 (for employees with 9-month appointments). Additional eligibility criteria apply. Employees with questions should contact the human resources office in their school, college, or division.

  • UW‒Madison paid parental leave policy becomes effective in July

    UW–Madison’s new paid parental leave becomes effective July 1, 2024. The policy provides eligible employees with up to six weeks (240 hours) of paid parental leave within a 12-month period for the birth or adoption of a child. The policy is available on the Policy Library. Concurrently with the implementation of the new policy, UW–Madison is making updates to the existing Postdoc Absence with Pay & Legal Holidays policy. Individuals who want to request parental leave should contact their Divisional Disability Representative for assistance. Details about the new policy, including FAQs, a Parental Leave Request Form, and language translations are available on the Paid Parental Leave web page at hr.wisc.edu/paid-parental-leave.
