Black History Month Events on Campus
UW–Madison is celebrating Black History Month in February with movie and TV show screenings, an open mic night and more for students, faculty and staff. The theme this year is “Melanin in Media: The People, The Culture, The Blackprint.” The keynote will feature a conversation with Ruth E. Carter, the Academy Award winner for “Best Costume Design” for the movie Black Panther, on Sunday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. in Varsity Hall, Union South. Black History Month at UW–Madison is planned and hosted by the 2022 Black History Month Planning Committee, the Black Cultural Center, and partners across campus. Update from the Chancellor on COVID-19
In her latest blog post, Chancellor Rebecca Blank addresses how the university has adapted to deal with COVID-19 and provides an overview of the newest campus actions to support health and safety. The blog post also provides answers to commonly asked questions about testing, online instruction, and protective masks. All employees are encouraged to review the recently published details about campus plans for the spring semester, and to view a recording of the town hall that was held on Friday, Jan. 21. Webinar Explains Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program
The federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program has enabled thousands of student loan borrowers to qualify to have the reminder of their federal student loan balance forgiven. Due to a program expansion, available through October 31, 2022, additional UW–Madison employees with federal student loans may qualify to have their loan balances forgiven. UW has partnered with Ascendium to present a 90-minute webinar that will share details about the program, how to qualify, and how UW employees may benefit from the temporary expansion. The webinar will be presented twice, once on Thursday, Jan. 27, from 5–6:30 p.m. and again on Thursday, Feb. 3, from 1–2:30 p.m. Register online to receive information about joining the meeting.

Charter Street at University Avenue Reopening
Charter Street between University Avenue and Lathrop Drive is open as of Tuesday, Jan. 25. Traffic lanes and pedestrian routes are open, and Madison Metro Transit has resumed regular service along Charter Street. Nearby construction will continue to impact motor vehicle, bike, and pedestrian traffic through spring 2022. For more details and a map, visit transportation.wisc.edu.

Center for Teaching, Learning and Mentoring Offers Instructional Support
The Center for Teaching, Learning and Mentoring offers a range of professional development programs, from the basics of teaching at UW–Madison to deep-focus explorations of important course design and teaching topics. Faculty, instructional academic staff, and graduate student instructors of all experience levels are welcome to participate. Town Hall to Address Plans for Spring Semester
A town hall event will be held this Friday, Jan. 21, from noon to 1 p.m. and can be viewed live at go.wisc.edu/covid-qa. UW–Madison experts will answer questions about the spring semester and how the university plans to navigate the continuing COVID-19 situation. Questions can be submitted in advance of the event at go.wisc.edu/january21. The presentation will be captioned and interpreted. A recording will be posted on covidresponse.wisc.edu.

W-2 Forms Now Available Online
Electronic 2021 W-2 Forms are now available online on MyUW at my.wisc.edu. Employees will receive a paper copy of the W-2 Form via U.S. mail postmarked by January 31, 2022. Paper copies are mailed to all employees except those who chose electronic-only delivery of their W-2 Form by January 13, 2022. Employees should use their W-2 Form, not their final 2021 earnings statement, to file their tax returns. Some employees will receive additional tax forms from UW System. These additional forms are not applicable to all employees.

New Website Devoted to Chancellor Search
A new website provides information about the search for the next UW–Madison chancellor. The site, found at chancellorsearch.wisc.edu, includes a prospectus for the position, search timeline, and other details for the campus community and stakeholders. The Search and Screen Committee is continuing to hold listening sessions throughout January, including upcoming sessions for community members and alumni, faculty, instructional academic staff, and students. Sessions for other Academic Staff and University Staff took place earlier in the month.

Construction Update for Charter Street Area
The plan for construction at Charter Street between University and Lathrop has been updated. Charter Street is now expected to partially reopen, with one lane of traffic each way, on Monday, Jan. 31. Some pedestrian routes are expected to reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 25. The project will run through March and continue to affect auto, bus, bicycle, and pedestrian travel. Campus COVID-19 Update
An update to campus health and safety measures was provided to the campus community on Friday, Jan. 7. The requirement that masks be worn indoors in UW–Madison buildings has been extended through March 1. Everyone eligible for a vaccine booster should get one as soon as possible. University Health Services will be expanding capacity at the campus vaccination clinic starting Jan. 24. Campus leaders are monitoring the public health situation as plans continue to offer in-person instruction, events and other activities beginning Jan. 25.
