New learning module explores data governance and responsible use
A new learning resource for employees, Data@UW – Data Governance and Responsible Use, provides information on how to protect the institutional data that employees collect and/or use every day. Many employees work with institutional data such as student information, paper copies of benefits elections, utility maps of campus buildings, or digital databases accessed remotely. The 30-minute, self-paced module explores the use and protection of institutional data across UW–Madison’s worksites, and helps employees understand their individual responsibilities. This employee learning module is a collaboration between Data, Academic Planning, and Institutional Research (DAPIR) and Learning and Talent Development.

University Staff have until end of year to swap sick leave
University Staff who used sick leave in 2024 may be able to change the type of leave they used and instead use personal holiday, floating holiday, vacation, or vacation carryover hours they have accrued. An employee may wish to consider a “sick leave swap” if they have unused leave that would expire at the end of the calendar year. Employees may also wish to consider swapping sick leave to reduce or maintain Income Continuation Insurance (ICI) premiums or to take advantage of deferred enrollment into the ICI program during the ICI Annual Review. Any requests to swap one type of leave for another must be submitted by Dec. 27, 2024. Employees should contact their local human resources office with any questions.

Sign up for electronic delivery of tax forms by Jan. 15
Active UW–Madison employees can receive W-2 and 1095-C forms via electronic-only distribution. Electronic forms are available earlier in the MyUW portal than paper forms distributed via U.S. mail. Electronic delivery is environmentally friendly and secure, with less risk of lost or stolen forms. This electronic-only consent must be completed by January 15, 2025, in order to receive your 2024 tax forms electronically.
To sign up for electronic-only consent for W-2 and 1095-C forms, go to MyUW at my.wisc.edu. For the W-2/W-2c form, go to MyUW > Payroll > Tax Statements > Consent to receive W-2 electronically. For the Form 1095-C consent, go to MyUW > Payroll > Tax Statements > Consent to receive 1095-C electronically. If you do not complete the consent forms, your W-2 form will be mailed at the end of January, and your 1095-C form will be mailed by mid-February to the home address you have on file at MyUW. Go to MyUW > Personal Information to verify or update your address.
