Coffee and Conversation Series Supports Advancement of Women
The “Coffee and Conversation” series hosted by the UW–Madison Women and Leadership Program has scheduled fall events on September 19, October 3, and November 7, 8 a.m.–10 a.m., at Union South. In September, Sabrina Madison, founder of the Progress Center for Black Women, will speak about discovering one’s potential. Future events will feature topics such as leadership, mentorship, work/life balance, and more. The no-cost events are open to anyone on campus with an interest in the advancement of women. Advance registration is requested.

Mentoring Program Invites Participants
The Academic Staff Mentoring Committee is looking for both mentors and mentees to participate in the 2019–20 Mentoring Program. The program is designed to support personal and professional growth for academic staff at UW–Madison. To express interest in being a mentor, fill out the survey at go.wisc.edu/7m9ckc. Register Now for 2019 Diversity Forum
The 2019 UW–Madison Diversity Forum will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 5 and Wednesday, Nov. 6, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Union South. The opening keynote speaker on Tuesday will be John Quiñones, longtime ABC news correspondent and creator and host of the “What Would You Do?” hidden camera television series. Forum programming will focus on ethics and diversity in higher education and in the broader community. The forum is free and open to the public. Attendees may register for one or both days. Multilingual HIB Prevention Workshops Coming in September
Hostile and Intimidating Behavior (HIB) Policy and Process Workshops will be offered for employees in multiple languages in September. Each 90-minute workshop will review campus HIB policies and resources, provide information on how to recognize HIB, and explain how to use the HIB website at hr.wisc.edu/hib. The daytime session will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 1–2:30 p.m. in the Memorial Union. The late-night session for second and third shift employees is on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 11 p.m.–12:30 a.m. at the Health Sciences Learning Center. Both sessions will be offered in English, Spanish, Hmong, Tibetan, Mandarin, and Nepali. Advance registration is not required for the multilingual workshops, but employees who plan to attend should notify their supervisor.

Regular Hours to Resume at University Dining Markets
Regular hours will resume at the University Dining Markets on Thursday, Sept. 5. All markets will return to regular service, in which diners choose individual food items and pay for what they take, with one exception. At Rheta’s Market only, diners will pay a fixed price for their meal when they enter and take all they care to eat, buffet style. Rheta’s Market is located in Chadbourne Residence Hall at the intersection of Park Street and University Avenue. Check Your Federal Withholding Amount
All UW–Madison employees are encouraged to do a “paycheck checkup.” This can help prevent you from having too little or too much federal tax withheld from your paycheck. The IRS offers a Tax Withholding Estimator to help you determine the right amount of tax withholding for your situation at irs.gov/individuals/tax-withholding estimator. If you would like to make a change in how much tax you have withheld, please submit a new W-4 form as soon as possible or see your local payroll contact for assistance.

New Website Focuses on Professional Development for Employees
UW–Madison employees have access to thousands of courses, seminars, conferences, and other professional development events every year. Employees can learn about these opportunities by reviewing the new Professional Development website for UW–Madison. The new site enables employees to search for courses and other learning opportunities, view their official course history, and learn how to develop their career. The site also offers information about campus communities of practice. All employees are encouraged to engage in professional development as a way to learn new skills, build relationships with colleagues, and achieve career goals. Faculty and Staff Meal Plan Offers Savings
UW–Madison faculty and staff can save money at any of the six University Housing dining locations by joining a meal plan offered by University Housing. For a $29.99 annual fee, members receive a 20 percent discount on most food items during the academic year (Sept. 4, 2019–May 8, 2020). Program members must use their Wiscard for purchases to receive the discount. Deposits can be made to a Wiscard account online, in person, or by mail. To sign up for the meal plan, visit the Housing Dining Office in the lower level of Gordon Dining & Event Center, 770 West Dayton Street.

Child Care Grants for University Staff
The University Staff Child Care Grant program helps University Staff at UW–Madison pay for the cost of quality child care for their children. Eligible employees include permanent University Staff who demonstrate a high need for additional financial support to pay for regulated child care. Applications are accepted throughout the year. The program is administered by the Office of Child Care and Family Resources. For more information, visit occfr.wisc.edu/financial-assistance. MFA-Duo Rolls Out to Students
Beginning September 9, UW–Madison students can start enrolling in multi-factor authentication from Duo. All students will be required to enroll by October 31, 2019. Instructional staff and faculty can help with the transition by encouraging their students to enroll early. The MFA-Duo KnowledgeBase offers solutions for various classroom scenarios that may require authentication of identity.
