  • August Workshops Make Teaching in Canvas Easy

    Before the semester begins, DoIT Academic Technology will offer technical training and Active Teaching Labs to help instructors make more effective use of Canvas. Participants will learn how to use Canvas to engage students, manage course materials, foster peer-to-peer interactions, track grades and more. Training sessions and labs are offered August 21–30.   • Volunteers Needed for Housing Move-In

    University Housing is looking for volunteers to help students and families have a great experience during fall move-in. Volunteers will serve as Badger Buddies, helping to load belongings into carts and bring them to residents’ rooms. All volunteers will get a free Badger Buddy T-shirt and a five-dollar voucher for each shift worked to spend at any of the campus dining halls. Volunteers are most needed on Tuesday, Aug. 27. Other available days are Saturday, Aug. 31 and Sunday, Sept. 1. Groups can be scheduled to work together as a team. Please volunteer by August 23 at go.wisc.edu/badger-buddy.   • Nominations Open for Outstanding Women of Color

    The UW–Madison Outstanding Women of Color Awards honor women of color among UW–Madison faculty, staff, students, and in the greater Madison community. The awards recognize outstanding contributions in social justice, community service, scholarship, and/or community building. A selection committee made up of students, faculty, and staff will review the nominations. The honorees will be announced at the annual Diversity Forum on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2019. Nomination packets are due Friday, Sept. 20. The nomination form can be found at go.wisc.edu/owoc.

  • Employers Invited to Recruit Students at Job Carnival

    The campus-wide Student Job Carnival will be held Thursday, Sept. 12, 3–6 p.m. at the Sellery Basketball Court, Gordon Terrace (rain location will be the Sellery Lounge in Sellery Residence Hall). The fair is open to both UW and non-UW students and is free to both students and employers. The job carnival will be an interactive event with games, prizes, and food. Employers who would like a presence at the fair should respond by Friday, August 9 by completing a brief survey. Registrations after August 9 will not be included in advertising materials.   • ETF Launches New Website

    The Department of Employee Trust Funds (ETF) has launched a new website at etf.wi.gov. The new website is designed to provide quick, easy access to retirement, health and other benefits information, decision-making tools, and educational resources. ETF is the administrator of the Wisconsin Retirement System.

  • Accept Round 1 Parking Offers, Apply for Round 2 by August 6

    Parking offers for those who submitted a 2019–20 parking application before June 8 were emailed July 12–18. These offers must be accepted and purchased by Tuesday, Aug. 6 or the offer expires. Some employees who completed an application were not offered a permit during round one. If you did not receive an email offering you parking, you were added to a waiting list and may get an offer in a future round. Those who missed the first round of applications can apply July 12–August 6. Offers for the second application period will be processed August 8. 2019–20 bus passes and motorcycle, moped, afternoon and night permits go on sale August 1.   • TTC Project Forum Now Available on Video

  • ALRA Banked Leave Eligibility and Deadline

    Faculty, Academic Staff and Limited Appointees who complete 10 years or 25 years of continuous service by June 30, 2019 are eligible to bank vacation hours on July 1, 2019. An employee is first eligible to bank up to 40 hours of vacation at the start of the 11th fiscal year of employment and is allowed to bank up to 80 hours of vacation at the start of the 26th fiscal year of employment. Employees should enter their ALRA conversion hours for fiscal year 2018–2019 by August 30, 2019. To check on your eligibility, go to MyUW and launch the “Time and Absence” module to view your July leave report. If you are eligible, go to “Request Absence” to enter hours you would like to convert to banked leave. If you need assistance, please contact your local human resources representative.
