Meditation Classes on Campus
Meditation increases concentration, enhances mental clarity, and helps induce positive states of relaxation and well-being. Meditation classes open to all are held noon–12:45 p.m. on Tuesdays at 21 N. Park Street, room 7045 and noon–12:45 p.m. on Wednesdays at Union South (check Today in the Union, or TITU, for room). These classes introduce the general principles and benefits of meditation. Students will practice different types of meditation. All classes are free and open to students, faculty, and staff. No registration is required.

NetID Login Process Changing
The NetID login process at UW–Madison is adding a second step, called multi-factor authentication. The first steps for logging in will remain the same: You will enter your NetID and password. The additional step uses a smartphone or token (also called a fob) to verify your identity. The new verification process will be rolled out to all UW–Madison faculty and staff by school, college and division, with completion estimated in March, 2019. The Office of Cybersecurity will host a free panel discussion on multi-factor authentication on Thursday, Oct. 18, noon–1:30 p.m. in the Computer Sciences Building, Room 3139 ABC. All interested employees are welcome to attend.

Supplemental Vision Coverage Changes for 2019
The Annual Benefits Enrollment period is currently underway and will end on October 26, 2018. Any employee currently enrolled in supplemental vision coverage through EPIC Benefits+ should review the 2019 VSP vision option and take action to enroll if you want supplemental vision insurance for 2019. EPIC Benefits+ vision coverage will end December 31, 2018.

N. Charter Street Closed at All Times
N. Charter Street between W. Johnson Street and University Avenue is now closed to traffic at all times. Previously, southbound traffic was available during select hours. Vehicles should use N. Mills Street, N. Orchard Street, or another parallel street for the duration of the project.

Changes to Shop@UW
Shop@UW, the UW–Madison Business Services eCommerce marketplace, is implementing new policies and procedures in order to improve internal controls. The Materials Distribution Unit has been working with the Office of Strategic Consulting on the project, which is being conducted in three phases. The project should be completed by the end of 2018. Meet and Mingle for IT Professionals
IT Professionals is hosting a Meet and Mingle networking event on Thursday, Oct. 25, 3–5 p.m. at the Carson Gulley Center. UW–Madison Chief Information Officer Lois Brooks will provide opening remarks. IT professionals are encouraged to bring new staff, including student staff. Participants may bring posters with information about what their IT units are doing.

Online Resources Help with Benefits Enrollment
The Annual Benefits Enrollment period is underway and runs through Friday, Oct. 26. Benefits-eligible UW–Madison employees can get a better understanding of their benefits options by using ALEX, an online resource. ALEX will ask you a series of questions to walk you through your benefits options and suggest appropriate plans based on your answers. This interactive tool is completely confidential and can be found at www.myalex.com/uwsystem/2019#intro. UW–Madison employees who did not attend a benefits information session or need a refresher can view a video of the benefits information session at benefits.wisc.edu/2019.

Homecoming Breakfast for Faculty and Staff
All UW–Madison faculty and staff are invited to celebrate the start of Homecoming Week on Monday, Oct. 15 with a free breakfast at One Alumni Place, 650 N. Lake Street. Drop in anytime between 7:30 and 9:30 a.m. to meet campus colleagues and enjoy food and refreshments. Registration is not required. The breakfast is sponsored by the Wisconsin Alumni Association.

Forum Looks at Diversity in Higher Education
The 2018 UW–Madison Diversity Forum is scheduled for all day on Wednesday, Oct. 31 and Thursday, Nov. 1 at Union South. This year’s theme is “Beyond the Numbers: Relationships, Retention and Reality.” On Wednesday, keynote speaker Talithia Williams, Ph.D., will discuss the changing culture of higher education and effective techniques for recruiting and retaining students and faculty from underrepresented communities. Day One will also include a community town hall discussion about demographic change in America and the response to it. On Thursday, breakout sessions will focus on diversity and inclusion topics relevant to education. Attendees may register for one or both days. Register by Oct. 26 for Leadership Conference
The 20th Annual Leadership and Management Development Conference will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 7, 8 a.m.–4 p.m. at Union South. The event is designed to help attendees develop effective leadership and management skills. Workshop topics include communication, diversity and inclusion, employee development, employee engagement, leadership skills, wellness, workplace development, and more.
