Nominations Open for Community-University Awards
Nominations are being accepted for the 2019 UW–Madison Community-University Partnership Awards. The awards recognize the work of UW–Madison faculty, staff, and students and their community partners as they address timely public issues across the State of Wisconsin. These awards offer an opportunity to thank UW’s community partners and highlight collaborative projects that contribute to the public good. Any UW–Madison employee or student may nominate a partnership. The deadline for nominations is Wednesday, April 10.

Badger Sports Camps Open for Registration
The UW–Madison Division of Intercollegiate Athletics offers summer camps for children and youth in a wide variety of sports. Camps are led by University of Wisconsin coaches, current and former student-athletes, and camp staff. At Badger Sports Camps, campers have fun while becoming better athletes in their respective sports. All camps are held on the UW campus. Learn more and register at uwcamps.com.

Workplace Workouts at Union South
A new session of Workplace Workouts will start on Wednesday, March 27 at Union South. The weekly workouts are scheduled from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Personal trainers from Rec Sports lead exercises that can be done anywhere. Each six-week session costs $30. All fitness levels and abilities are welcome, and a Rec Sports membership is not required. Registration is also open for Workplace Workouts at the Memorial Union starting Tuesday, April 30. Celebrate Women's History Month on Friday
This Friday, March 15, the Campus Workers Collective will sponsor a celebration of Women’s History Month from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Lake Mendota Room at DeJope Residence Hall. The event is free and open to the public. State Representative Melissa Sargent will deliver the keynote presentation. A hot lunch will be served. UW–Madison employees may attend without loss of pay, and advance registration is not required.

Outside Employment Reporting for University Staff
UW–Madison University Staff employees are not prohibited from accepting outside employment, provided that the outside employment does not interfere with their duties to the university. UW System policy prohibits University Staff employees from accepting outside employment that causes a conflict of interest with their university employment. If a University Staff member is considering or is currently working an additional job outside the UW, they need to self-determine if the outside job duties are in conflict with their UW job duties. In these situations, employees should provide details about the outside employment to their supervisor. The supervisor will let the employee know if they are able to start or continue with the outside employment. University Staff members who are not sure whether they need to take action or have questions about the policy should speak with their supervisor.

Accreditation Site Visit Open Sessions
A review team appointed by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) will be visiting campus March 25–26. The visit is the next step in UW–Madison’s periodic evaluation by its regional accrediting agency. Open sessions with the HLC representatives will be held for the university community. Times and locations for open sessions will be posted by March 22 at hlcaccreditation.wisc.edu.

Parking During WIAA Boys Basketball Tournament
The WIAA Boys Basketball Tournament will be visiting the Kohl Center March 14–16, impacting parking and traffic in the area. Parking permit holders in lots 46, 78, 91 and 94 must relocate on tournament dates. Lots 29 and 83 will also be used for visitor parking, but permit holders are not required to relocate. Affected permit holders can use alternate lots or other transportation options, such as carpooling or taking the bus. Academic Staff Institute Registration Open
This year’s Academic Staff Institute (ASI) will be held Wednesday, March 27, 7:45 a.m.–1:30 p.m. at Union South. ASI is an annual professional development conference for UW–Madison academic staff. The conference includes a keynote speaker and a variety of breakout sessions on topics including benefits, campus safety, inclusivity, career management, and the Title and Total Compensation Project. The registration fee of $18 includes breakfast and lunch. Registration is open through March 15 at go.wisc.edu/kuwfdf.

Workshop Teaches Skills in Emotional Intelligence
A free, half-day workshop on Emotional Intelligence @ Work will be offered to UW–Madison employees in the months of June through October. In this interactive workshop, participants will explore how they can increase their capacity for emotional intelligence (EQ) in their professional and personal lives. Emotional intelligence can help improve and enhance relationships, foster inclusive communication and decision making, and maximize emotionally intelligent strategies. The workshops are part of the new Building Inclusion @ UW series offered by Learning and Talent Development. These sessions fill up quickly, so early registration is encouraged. Preparing for Retirement for WRS Members
Retirement specialists from the Department of Employee Trust Funds (ETF) are offering free in-person sessions and live webinars about preparing for retirement. The presentations are designed for employees who are members of the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS), especially those who are within five years of retirement. Both the in-person sessions and the live, interactive webinars will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. In-person presentations in the Madison area will be held on Wednesday, March 20 at River Bluff Middle School in Stoughton and Monday, March 25 at the Performing Arts Center in Middleton. Registration with an email address is required to attend a live webinar.
