  • Registration Open for Employee Career Conference

    UW–Madison employees are encouraged to develop lifelong career management skills by attending “Construct Your Career at UW,” the UW–Madison Employee Career Conference, on Thursday, March 7, 8:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. at Union South. The free conference is designed to help employees explore their career paths while remaining employed at UW–Madison. Attendees may come and go throughout the day based on their interests and schedules. The registration deadline is February 22.   • Save the Date for Showcase

    The 20th annual Showcase, hosted by the Office of Strategic Consulting, will take place on the morning of Wednesday, April 17 at Union South. The event is an opportunity for UW–Madison faculty and staff to share their successes, learn from others’ experiences, and connect with each other. All members of the campus community are welcome to attend. Anyone who wishes to highlight an improvement, innovation, or best practice at Showcase is invited to create a poster about the experience. Those who are considering bringing a poster should fill out the Poster Exhibit Interest Questionnaire no later than March 10.

  • Events Help Instructors with Canvas

    DoIT Academic Technology is offering multiple sessions to help instructors use Canvas to engage students, manage course materials, track grades, and more. “Technical Trainings” offer practical and efficient ways to use Canvas in a traditional training format. In the “Teaching Effectively in Canvas” sessions, participants learn about the experiences of fellow UW–Madison instructors, explore ways to connect with learning principles, and consider how to design personalized, interactive learning experiences.

  • Learn about TSA Supplemental Retirement Savings

    The UW Tax-Sheltered Annuity (TSA) 403(b) Program is a voluntary, supplemental retirement savings program that allows employees to invest a portion of their income on a pre-tax basis, after-tax (Roth) basis, or a combination of both. A one-on-one counseling session with a financial representative can help you learn about the TSA program. Sessions are offered at a variety of campus locations in January and February. Having an individual counseling session does not obligate you to contribute to the TSA or open an account. You can learn more at a UW TSA 403(b) Workshop on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 1–2 p.m. at 21 North Park Street, room 1106. Visit go.wisc.edu/9w4a0h to register for the workshop.

  • Second of Two Pay Adjustments Effective

    UW-Madison faculty, academic staff, university staff, and limited appointees will receive the second of two pay increases in January under the 2017–2019 pay plan. The pay plan established a 4 percent increase. The first 2 percent increase took effect in July 2018. The second 2 percent increase became effective December 23, 2018 for employees paid on an hourly basis and January 1, 2019 for employees paid monthly. Employees who are paid hourly will see the increase on the paycheck dated January 17. For employees who are paid monthly, the increase will appear on their earnings statement for January, paid on February 1. To be eligible to receive the pay plan increases, individuals must have been employed in their current positions by January 8, 2018, must have completed UW–Madison’s sexual harassment prevention training by March 9, 2018, and must have met performance expectations as identified in their last performance evaluation.

  • Review Your Benefits Enrollment

    This is a good time to review your earnings statement and make sure the 2019 benefits changes you requested during Annual Benefits Enrollment have been made. Your earnings statement can be found in MyUW at my.wisc.edu. You can also review your benefits elections as listed in the “Benefit Information” module in MyUW. If you identify any concerns, please send an email to benefits@ohr.wisc.edu by January 30. You can also ask your local human resources contact for assistance.

  • Nominations for Academic Staff Excellence Awards Due Friday

    The deadline for nominations for the UW–Madison Academic Staff Excellence Awards is Friday, Jan. 11. The awards honor academic staff in several categories, including excellence in teaching, service to the university, research, leadership, public service and outreach, and career achievement. Nominations must be submitted online at apps.ohr.wisc.edu/staffdev. Resubmissions are encouraged and may include updated materials. If you have questions, please email pdrc@soas.wisc.edu or contact the Secretary of the Academic Staff Office at 263-2985.

  • Accreditation Process Welcomes Input

    As part of UW–Madison’s periodic evaluation by its regional accrediting agency, employees are invited to provide feedback on substantive matters related to the quality of the institution and its academic programs. Information on submitting comments to the Higher Learning Commission can be found at go.wisc.edu/85k4y9. All comments must be received by February 25, 2019.

  • Living Wage Increasing at UW–Madison

    The living wage standard at UW–Madison is increasing from $13.01 per hour to $13.27 per hour as of December 23, 2018. The increase applies to all University Staff and Temporary Employees. UW–Madison follows the City of Madison living wage standard, and is committed to paying a living wage to all University Staff in hourly positions. Employees do not receive the living wage if they are in special employment programs or if an individual indicates that a higher rate of pay would adversely affect their eligibility for benefits programs such as Social Security or disability. The living wage policy does not apply to student employees.

  • Voice Your Benefits Preferences by Friday

    The UW–Madison Employee Benefits Preferences Survey closes this Friday, Dec. 14. All benefits-eligible employees are asked to complete this survey, which was sent via email from universityofwisconsin@mercer.com. The responses will help shape future UW benefits programs. The survey is confidential, with all responses going directly to Mercer, an independent human resources consulting firm. Paper surveys are being provided to those employees who lack computer access or would be more comfortable responding to the survey in a language other than English.
