  • Open House Focuses on Leadership Development

    Leadership @ UW is holding a Spring Open House on Wednesday, April 27, 3–5 p.m. in the Great Hall at the Memorial Union. All UW–Madison faculty, staff, and students are welcome to attend the free event. The open house will feature networking, refreshments, and information on the many ways in which leadership development is supported on campus. Advance registration is requested by April 20. Walk-ins are also welcome.

  • Workshop Develops Emotional Intelligence Skills

    A three-part workshop, Emotional Intelligence@Work, is available at no cost to UW-Madison faculty and staff. The workshop is designed to build Emotional Intelligence (EQ) skills through a series of interactive workshops and small group exercises experienced as a cohort. EQ can improve and enhance relationships, foster inclusive communication and decision-making, and maximize emotionally intelligent strategies in one’s work and personal life. The workshop is offered in person and meets for 2.5-hour sessions on April 19, May 3, and May 17 from 1–3:30 p.m. Space is limited in order to support the cohort learning model.   • Teaching and Learning Symposium Registration Open

    The 2022 Teaching and Learning Symposium will be held virtually on Thursday, May 19, from 9–11:30 a.m. The symposium provides an opportunity to share best practices, celebrate accomplishments, and discuss new learning and teaching practices and theories in a forum dedicated to enriching the student learning experience. This year’s theme, “Building an Inclusive Community of Care,” focuses on active and inclusive teaching practices that foster a learning environment that values both instructors’ and students’ life experiences, promotes deeper learning, and inspires critical inquiry. The event will include time for networking and discussion. The symposium is designed for faculty, staff, post-docs, and graduate students and is offered at no cost. Registration is required.

  • Well Wisconsin Program Offers Resources and Incentive

    Well Wisconsin is a voluntary wellness program available at no cost to UW–Madison employees, their spouses, and retirees who are enrolled in the State Group Health Insurance Program. The program offers resources that can help participants set goals, track their progress, and stay motivated. Participants can earn a $150 incentive in 2022 by completing the health assessment, a health check, and one well-bring activity by October 14, 2022. There are a number of well-being activities to choose from based on one’s personal needs and interests. To participate, log in or register on the WebMD ONE website at webmdhealth.com/wellwisconsin (use code SOWI) or download the Wellness At Your Side mobile app through the App Store or on Google Play (use code SOWI).   • Employee Input Invited on UWPD Communications

    The UW–Madison Police Department (UWPD) is seeking input on the many ways the department communicates with the campus community. Employees received a link to a brief survey from Chief Kristen Roman on Tuesday, March 22. The survey includes questions about the usefulness of UWPD communications, preferred communications methods, and more. Direct feedback can also be shared. The survey, which closes on Tuesday, April 12, can be found at go.wisc.edu/uwpdsurvey.

  • Suicide Prevention Training for Faculty and Staff

    Recognize, Respond, Refer: Suicide Prevention Training for Faculty and Staff is available in Canvas. The training, developed by University Health Services, offers information and guidance designed to help faculty and staff support student mental health, intervene, and prevent suicide. The self-guided training does not give immediate or crisis support and is not a form of counseling. Instead, it prepares faculty and staff to be better able to support UW–Madison students in the future. The training can be found at canvas.wisc.edu/courses/275497.

  • Showcase 2022 Resources Available Online

    Resources from Showcase 2022, which took place on March 8, are now available on the Showcase website. These include a recording of the keynote presentation by Chancellor Rebecca Blank and breakout session summaries and materials. The site also provides a PDF of all posters from the event, as well as a recording of the poster flash talks, which provide a high level overview of selected campus projects.   • Help Make UW–Madison a Drug-Free Workplace

    All faculty and staff are encouraged to contribute to a drug-free workplace. You can do this by learning the facts about substance abuse, encouraging others to avoid substance abuse, and knowing where you or others can go for help with a drug or alcohol problem. The laws and expectations regarding substance abuse apply to all members of the UW–Madison campus community.   • Reminder of Deadlines to Use Personal Holiday and Vacation Carryover

    UW–Madison employees are reminded to make plans to use personal holiday hours or vacation carryover by the upcoming deadlines. Faculty, Academic Staff, and Limited Appointees with 12-month (annual basis) appointments must use all carried-over vacation and personal holiday hours by June 30, 2022, the end of the fiscal year. Floating holidays earned on Dec. 25, 2021, and Jan. 1, 2022, must also be used by June 30. For University Staff, all carried-over vacation and all personal holiday hours must be used by December 31, the end of the calendar year. Employees who are eligible to bank leave may do so. Any vacation carryover or personal holiday hours remaining after these respective deadlines will be lost. Leave balances can be found under “Time and Absence” in MyUW. Employees who wish to verify their leave balances and the corresponding deadlines should contact the human resources department in their school, college, or division.

  • FP&M Employee Recognition Awards Accepting Nominations

    Each year, Facilities Planning & Management (FP&M) recognizes FP&M employees whose work adds value to the world-class learning environment on our 936-acre UW campus. Nominations are now being accepted for the FP&M Employee Recognition Awards. The FP&M workforce consists of more than 1,200 employees who provide services in campus planning, design and construction, maintenance and operation of buildings and grounds, utilities, health and safety, sustainability, and parking and transportation. Any member of the campus community can nominate an FP&M employee or team for an award. Re-submissions of prior nominations are encouraged. Complete the nomination form online or print and submit a form in any of six languages. The nomination deadline is April 18. Learn more at go.wisc.edu/nominate-fpm.
