  • Civil Rights Leader to Speak at MLK Symposium

    Social entrepreneur, changemaker, and former NAACP president Benjamin Jealous will provide the keynote address at UW’s annual MLK Symposium on Monday, Jan. 23, in the Memorial Union’s Shannon Hall. Jealous will reflect on the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through the lens of his work as a civil rights leader. The keynote will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by a moderated Q&A and a reception with light refreshments. Learn more at go.wisc.edu/MLK23.

  • Showcase 2023 Call for Proposals

    The Office of Strategic Consulting will be hosting the 23rd annual Showcase event on Thursday, April 20, at Union South. This day-long event brings together campus colleagues to share best practices, learn from each other’s successes, and connect. Proposals are now being accepted for one-hour breakout sessions on topics related to organizational effectiveness. All sessions will be delivered in person; there will be no livestreams or recordings. Suggested topics and evaluation criteria are available on the Showcase website.   • Webinar Teaches Mind-Body Wellness Skills

    LifeMatters and the Employee Assistance Office are offering a virtual webinar, Mind-Body Wellness, on Tuesday, Jan. 24, noon‒12:45 p.m. via Zoom.   • University Roundtable Offers Lunchtime Learning

    Each semester, the University Roundtable offers three lunch programs, each featuring a talk or program by a member of the university community. All programs will be held in Varsity Hall at Union South from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Topics to be covered include collegiate athletics on February 15; biomarker testing on March 15; and a backstage look at Wisconsin Public Radio on April 26. Roundtable programs are open to members of the university community and their guests. The cost for each lunch is $15, and advance registration is required.   • Coffee and Conversation Series Offers Spring Sessions

    April McHugh, director of the career counseling program for UW–Madison employees, will present a workshop on Growing Career Resilience in an Ever-Changing Workplace on Thursday, Feb. 16, 8–10 a.m. at Union South. Participants will learn how to better lead, work, and develop in their careers, and will leave with resiliency strategies they can implement immediately. Coffee and light refreshments will be served. The free event is part of the Coffee and Conversation series hosted by Learning and Talent Development. Additional talks are scheduled for March 23 and April 27. Register in advance.

  • Administrative Professionals Conference Call for Proposals

    The Administrative Professionals Conference is scheduled for Wednesday, April 12, 8:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. at Union South. The conference provides professional development to UW–Madison employees who serve in roles such as administrative assistant, office associate, executive assistant, financial specialist, program assistant, administrative specialist, and medical program assistant. Conference planners welcome calls for proposals from interested speakers who would like to present breakout sessions in support of one or more conference themes. Session proposals are due by Friday, Feb. 3. Registration, which includes lunch, has a $125 fee and is open through March 28. Managers and supervisors are encouraged to approve requests from staff to attend the conference.

  • Nominations Open for Partners in Giving Awards

    Nominations are now being accepted for four Partners in Giving volunteer awards. Employees are encouraged to nominate campaign volunteers who have done outstanding work to support the campaign. The nomination deadline is 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 1. A ceremony to honor award winners will be held in March. Visit giving.wi.gov/award-nomination-form.

  • Retirement Planning Throughout Your Career

    It is never too early to start preparing for retirement. The choices you make today can affect your income and insurance options as a retiree. UW–Madison offers free, online informational sessions for employees at every stage in their career. Those who are 15–30 years from retirement can learn about strategies for preparing early by attending Starting to Save. The Mid-Career Retirement Check-In is designed for employees who are 5–15 years from retirement. UW employees who might retire within five years can learn about the retirement process in the Ready to Retire session; a recorded video of this session is also available. All sessions are offered on multiple dates.
