  • New Website Devoted to Chancellor Search

    A new website provides information about the search for the next UW–Madison chancellor. The site, found at chancellorsearch.wisc.edu,  includes a prospectus for the position, search timeline, and other details for the campus community and stakeholders. The Search and Screen Committee is continuing to hold listening sessions throughout January, including upcoming sessions for community members and alumni, faculty, instructional academic staff, and students. Sessions for other Academic Staff and University Staff took place earlier in the month.

  • Construction Update for Charter Street Area

    The plan for construction at Charter Street between University and Lathrop has been updated. Charter Street is now expected to partially reopen, with one lane of traffic each way, on Monday, Jan. 31. Some pedestrian routes are expected to reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 25. The project will run through March and continue to affect auto, bus, bicycle, and pedestrian travel. Details and a map can be found at transportation.wisc.edu.

  • Campus COVID-19 Update

    An update to campus health and safety measures was provided to the campus community on Friday, Jan. 7. The requirement that masks be worn indoors in UW–Madison buildings has been extended through March 1. Everyone eligible for a vaccine booster should get one as soon as possible. University Health Services will be expanding capacity at the campus vaccination clinic starting Jan. 24. Campus leaders are monitoring the public health situation as plans continue to offer in-person instruction, events and other activities beginning Jan. 25.   • Some Benefits Changes Take Effect This Week

    For most employees, benefits deductions and contributions are changing in 2022. Some of these changes have already taken effect. Others are effective with the Jan. 13, 2022, paycheck. The Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) employee and employee contributions for 2022 will decrease slightly for most employees, beginning with the Jan. 13, 2022, paycheck. Details can be found on the WRS web page for UW System employees. For those employees participating in the UW 403(b) Supplemental Retirement Program, the Jan. 13 paycheck will be the first paycheck with contributions going to the recordkeeper selected during Annual Benefits Enrollment (or by default if no action was taken by the employee).

  • Community of Practice Network to Meet

    The Community of Practice (CoP) Network will meet virtually on Friday, Jan. 14, from 9–11 a.m. CoPs are peer-organized learning communities that bring together people from across an organization to teach one another, share resources, and find inspiration. The CoP Network serves as a collective resource for conveners and facilitators of CoPs, as well as those who are interested in convening new CoPs. Meetings are open to all, including newcomers. The CoP network also maintains an email list that welcomes subscribers. For instructions on joining the meeting via Zoom, send an email to sgcarroll@wisc.edu.

  • Campus Supervisors Network Invites Participants

    Campus Supervisors Network (CSN) is a Community of Practice dedicated to promoting leadership and personnel management at UW–Madison by sharing ideas and best practices. CSN offers trainings, networking opportunities, online resources, and a weekly email newsletter. All UW supervisors are encouraged to participate.   • Family Caregiving Resources for Employees

    UW–Madison is aware that some employees may be balancing work and family caregiving responsibilities due to the impacts of the ongoing pandemic. Units will continue to offer workplace flexibility to employees when possible and appropriate. Workplace flexibilities may include remote work, alternative work weeks, variable hours, reassignment, and other options, implemented wherever feasible. Information about family caregiving options and resources is available at hr.wisc.edu/covid19/family-caregiving. The university also offers a number of leave options for employees, and details are available at hr.wisc.edu/covid19/leave. Employees with family caregiving concerns are encouraged to speak with their supervisor, department chair, or local human resources contact regarding their options.

  • Nominations Open for 2022 Administrative Improvement Awards

    Each year, UW–Madison celebrates members of our community who provide critical administrative support of our academic, research, and outreach mission. The Administrative Improvement Awards recognize outstanding work in process redesign/development or customer service that has resulted in improved efficiency, new revenue channels, cost or time savings, improved service delivery, or other benefits. Nominations are now open for individuals and teams. The nomination deadline is Tuesday, Jan. 25. Details and the nomination form are available at vc.wisc.edu/aia.

  • Pre-Semester Course Preparation Workshops for Instructors

    Starting January 2022, the Center for Teaching, Learning and Mentoring and the Teaching Academy will offer Teaching at UW: Pre-Semester Course Preparation. This new offering includes four, pre-semester, fully online, interactive workshops that introduce evidence-based practices, and help instructors consider meaningful strategies to enhance their course design and instruction. Faculty, instructional academic staff, and graduate student instructors are welcome to participate. Registration has been extended to January 5. Additional Teaching at UW sessions will be offered throughout the spring 2022 semester.

  • Partners in Giving Volunteer Award Nomination Deadline Jan. 31

    Nominations are now being accepted for volunteers who did outstanding work to support the fall 2021 Partners in Giving Campaign. The nomination process is quick and easy. Photos and attachments may be included. Award descriptions and the nomination form are available at giving.wi.gov/award-nomination-form. Nominations are due Monday, Jan. 31 by 4 p.m.
