Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Virtual Workshop
Dr. Sherry Watt and the Multicultural Initiatives Research team from the University of Iowa will lead a virtual workshop, Introducing the Theory of Being for Difficult Dialogues in Higher Education, on Tuesday, April 26, 1:30–4:30 p.m. via Zoom. This interactive event will focus on how to approach topics of race, identity, exclusion, and racism in academia. Faculty, staff, graduate students, and post-docs are all welcome to attend. The workshop is hosted by the Comparative Biomedical Sciences program at UW–Madison. Register at no cost.

Staff Climate Survey Invites Feedback
UW–Madison is committed to creating a community where every person feels safe, valued, like they belong, and set up for success. Staff members are invited to share feedback about their experience at UW–Madison by taking the 2022 Staff Climate Survey. The survey includes questions about workplace environment, work unit, relationship with one’s supervisor, remote work policy, and more. Permanent academic staff, university staff, limited appointees who do not hold a faculty appointment, and post-docs received a link to the survey via email on Tuesday, April 12.
The survey takes approximately 15 minutes to complete, and respondents may start the survey and return to it later. The survey is available in English, Spanish, Hmong, Tibetan, Chinese, and Nepali. Paper surveys will be available on request and at in-person, daytime and late-night help sessions on April 20, 21, 26 and 27. The UW Survey Center is administering the survey. Responses are confidential and will never be shared in a way that could identify individual respondents. The survey will be open until May 3, 2022. WRS Annual Statement of Benefits Now Available
If you were covered by the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) in 2021, your WRS Annual Statement of Benefits is now available. The statement includes your 2021 earnings, retirement benefit projections, primary beneficiary designation(s) for your WRS account, and more. To view your statement, go to MyUW at my.wisc.edu and launch the Benefit Information module. Then click on the “ETF WRS Statements of Benefits” tab to find the 2021 statement. For help understanding your statement, visit etf.wi.gov/retirement/wrs-retirement-benefit/my-statement-benefits. If you have questions, please contact your human resources office.

Open House Focuses on Leadership Development
Leadership @ UW is holding a Spring Open House on Wednesday, April 27, 3–5 p.m. in the Great Hall at the Memorial Union. All UW–Madison faculty, staff, and students are welcome to attend the free event. The open house will feature networking, refreshments, and information on the many ways in which leadership development is supported on campus. Advance registration is requested by April 20. Walk-ins are also welcome.

Workshop Develops Emotional Intelligence Skills
A three-part workshop, Emotional Intelligence@Work, is available at no cost to UW-Madison faculty and staff. The workshop is designed to build Emotional Intelligence (EQ) skills through a series of interactive workshops and small group exercises experienced as a cohort. EQ can improve and enhance relationships, foster inclusive communication and decision-making, and maximize emotionally intelligent strategies in one’s work and personal life. The workshop is offered in person and meets for 2.5-hour sessions on April 19, May 3, and May 17 from 1–3:30 p.m. Space is limited in order to support the cohort learning model. Teaching and Learning Symposium Registration Open
The 2022 Teaching and Learning Symposium will be held virtually on Thursday, May 19, from 9–11:30 a.m. The symposium provides an opportunity to share best practices, celebrate accomplishments, and discuss new learning and teaching practices and theories in a forum dedicated to enriching the student learning experience. This year’s theme, “Building an Inclusive Community of Care,” focuses on active and inclusive teaching practices that foster a learning environment that values both instructors’ and students’ life experiences, promotes deeper learning, and inspires critical inquiry. The event will include time for networking and discussion. The symposium is designed for faculty, staff, post-docs, and graduate students and is offered at no cost. Registration is required.

Well Wisconsin Program Offers Resources and Incentive
Well Wisconsin is a voluntary wellness program available at no cost to UW–Madison employees, their spouses, and retirees who are enrolled in the State Group Health Insurance Program. The program offers resources that can help participants set goals, track their progress, and stay motivated. Participants can earn a $150 incentive in 2022 by completing the health assessment, a health check, and one well-bring activity by October 14, 2022. There are a number of well-being activities to choose from based on one’s personal needs and interests. To participate, log in or register on the WebMD ONE website at webmdhealth.com/wellwisconsin (use code SOWI) or download the Wellness At Your Side mobile app through the App Store or on Google Play (use code SOWI). Employee Input Invited on UWPD Communications
The UW–Madison Police Department (UWPD) is seeking input on the many ways the department communicates with the campus community. Employees received a link to a brief survey from Chief Kristen Roman on Tuesday, March 22. The survey includes questions about the usefulness of UWPD communications, preferred communications methods, and more. Direct feedback can also be shared. The survey, which closes on Tuesday, April 12, can be found at go.wisc.edu/uwpdsurvey.

Suicide Prevention Training for Faculty and Staff
Recognize, Respond, Refer: Suicide Prevention Training for Faculty and Staff is available in Canvas. The training, developed by University Health Services, offers information and guidance designed to help faculty and staff support student mental health, intervene, and prevent suicide. The self-guided training does not give immediate or crisis support and is not a form of counseling. Instead, it prepares faculty and staff to be better able to support UW–Madison students in the future. The training can be found at canvas.wisc.edu/courses/275497.

Showcase 2022 Resources Available Online
Resources from Showcase 2022, which took place on March 8, are now available on the Showcase website. These include a recording of the keynote presentation by Chancellor Rebecca Blank and breakout session summaries and materials. The site also provides a PDF of all posters from the event, as well as a recording of the poster flash talks, which provide a high level overview of selected campus projects.
